Woodville South is a suburb of Adelaide, South Australia. It lies within the City of Charles Sturt. Woodville South is adjacent to the suburbs of Woodville West, Woodville, Woodville Park, Beverley, and Findon. Woodville South is the location of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, one of Adelaide's main hospitals, as well as Woodville Oval, the home of South Australian National Football League team, the Woodville-West Torrens Eagles. Woodville South Post Office opened on 1 June 1960 and closed in 1974. The former suburb of Tenterden (variously spelled as Tenterdon) now forms the north-western portion of Woodville South. Heritage Woodville South contains a number of buildings of local heritage significance, recorded in the City of Charles Sturt's Development Plan. The Division of Hindmarsh is an Australian Electoral Division in South Australia covering the western suburbs of Adelaide. The division was one of the seven established when the former Division of South Australia was split on 2 October 1903, and was first contested at the 1903 election, though on vastly different boundaries. The Division is named after Sir John Hindmarsh, who was Governor of South Australia from 1836 to 1838. The City of Charles Sturt is a local government area in the western suburbs of Adelaide, South Australia, stretching to the coast. The council was formed on 1 January 1997 as a result of the amalgamation of the City of Hindmarsh Woodville and the City of Henley and Grange. It comprises a mix of residential, industrial and commercial areas and had a population of 111,759 in 2016. History The first local government to be established in the area was the District Council of Hindmarsh (established in 1853), covering the north west suburbs of Adelaide south of the port and north of the Torrens. Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Adelaide
The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (TQEH) is an acute care teaching hospital in the western suburbs of Adelaide, South Australia. It provides a range of health services, including inpatient, outpatient, surgical, emergency and mental health services. History The hospital opened in 1954 as a maternity hospital and expanded its services after this. Woodville Oval
Woodville Oval (currently Maughan Thiem Hyundai Oval and formerly ''Unleash Solar Oval'') is primarily an Australian rules football and cricket oval found on Oval Avenue in the western Adelaide suburb of Woodville South in South Australia. It is the home ground of South Australian National Football League (SANFL) club the Woodville-West Torrens Eagles, and the former home (1941–90) of the Woodville Football Club, with the former's clubrooms and administrations offices now housing The Eagles. Woodville-West Torrens Football Club is an Australian rules football club playing in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL). It was formed in 1990 from an amalgamation of the neighbouring Woodville and West Torrens football clubs and played its inaugural game in 1991. Since 1993, the Eagles have played most of their home games at Woodville's home ground of Woodville Oval, having previously used Football Park.
