Woodlawn Wind Farm
The Woodlawn Wind Farm is a wind farm located near Bungendore, New South Wales. It is part of the Capital Renewable Energy Precinct, along with nearby Capital Wind Farm and the Woodlawn Bioreactor. Woodlawn Wind Farm was owner and operator Infigen Energy's sixth Australian wind farm. It is a 48.3 megawatt wind farm with 23 turbines. The energy produced by the wind farm can power around 32,000 average Australian households per year, saving over 138,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions per year. Location The Woodlawn Wind Farm is near Tarago and Bungendore, adjacent to Capital Wind Farm. Timeline The New South Wales Minister for Planning issued Conditions of Approval for the project on 4 October 2005. Bungendore, New South Wales
Bungendore is a town in the Queanbeyan Region of New South Wales, Australia, in Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council. It is on the Kings Highway near Lake George, the Molonglo River Valley and the Australian Capital Territory border. It has become a major tourist centre in recent years, popular with visitors from Canberra and some of it has heritage protection. It has expanded rapidly in recent years as a dormitory town of Canberra. History Prior to European settlement, the area was occupied by the Ngarigo people, whose northernmost lands extended to the southern shore of Lake George and around the base of the steep escarpment lying to the west of what is now Bungendore. Infigen Energy (Infigen), operating under this name since 29 April 2009, is a developer, owner and operator of renewable energy generation assets in Australia. Infigen's wind farm portfolio has an installed capacity of 557 MW. Most of Infigen's assets generate electricity from renewable sources and are eligible to sell Large-scale Generation Certificates (LGCs) under the mandatory Renewable Energy Target scheme, which operates in Australia under the ''Renewable Energy (Electricity) Act 2000''. Capital Wind Farm
The Capital Wind Farm near Bungendore is the largest wind farm in New South Wales. It is part of the Capital Renewable Energy Precinct, along with nearby Woodlawn Wind Farm and the Capital East Solar Demonstration Plant. Capital Wind Farm was built by international contractors Suzlon Energy for owner and operator Infigen Energy. Construction began in early 2008, and the wind farm became fully operational in October 2009. It is a 140.7 megawatt wind farm with 67 turbines. In 2009, the project was expected to have a capacity factor of 35.8%, and thus generate on average 441 GWh of energy per year. However, from 2011 to 2020 it ran at an average of 27.88% capacity factor, with a corresponding annual generation of 343.66 GWh. Wind Turbine
A wind turbine is a device that converts the kinetic energy of wind into electrical energy. Hundreds of thousands of large turbines, in installations known as wind farms, now generate over 650 gigawatts of power, with 60 GW added each year. Wind turbines are an increasingly important source of intermittent renewable energy, and are used in many countries to lower energy costs and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. Greenhouse gas emissions from human activities strengthen the greenhouse effect, contributing to climate change. Most is carbon dioxide from burning fossil fuels: coal, oil, and natural gas. Tarago, New South Wales
Tarago is a town in the Southern Tablelands of New South Wales, Australia in Goulburn Mulwaree Council. Part of the defined locality, which includes a large area of grazing country, is on the eastern shore of Lake George in the area of the Queanbeyan–Palerang Regional Council. Martin Dent (8 February 1979 in Woking, UK) is an English-born Australian Olympian marathon runner, who ran at the 2012 Summer Olympics. He made his season best time of 2 hours, 16 minutes and 29 seconds in the marathon in 28th place. Dent attended Berkeley Vale Community High School on the Central Coast of New South Wales.
