Woodbridge Strikers Soccer Club is a Canadian semi-professional soccer club based in Woodbridge, Ontario. The club was founded in 1976 as a youth soccer club and added its semi-professional club in League1 Ontario in 2014. The team plays home games at Vaughan Grove Park. The club was one of the ten original founding men's teams in League1 Ontario, which was established in 2014, as well as one of eight original founding teams in the League1 Ontario women's division, which was established in 2015. History The club's history dates back to 1972, when the East Woodbridge Soccer Club and West Woodbridge Soccer Club were created to serve the Woodbridge Community. In 1976, these two clubs merged to form Woodbridge Soccer Club. In 2014, the semi-professional club was established to play in the newly formed League1 Ontario as one of the founding members. Peter Pinizzotto
Peter Pinizzotto is an Italian born Canadian soccer coach who serves as the head coach for Woodbridge Strikers in League1 Ontario. Pinizzotto is known for managing the Toronto Lynx, and is the longest-serving manager in the history of Toronto Lynx, having managed from 1997 and 2003. After his tenure with the Lynx, Pinnizzotto was appointed assistant coach to the Montreal Impact under Nick De Santis. He enjoyed success with the Impact winning the 2004 USL First Division league championship, as well as winning the Voyageurs Cup four years in a row. In 2009, he became associated with the Woodbridge Strikers. Playing career Pinizzotto was born in Italy, but shortly after moved to Switzerland where he joined the academy of FC Biel-Bienne eventually being called up to the first team. Blue Devils Football Club (formerly known as Oakville Blue Devils FC) is a semi-professional soccer club based in Oakville, Ontario. The senior men's and women's teams currently compete in League1 Ontario men's and women's divisions. History Past teams of same name The original Oakville Blue Devils was a member team of the Oakville Soccer Club. The team was built, coached and developed by Phil Iafrati (1947–2013), where they won the U19 provincial and national championships in 1998. As the Devils reached the end of the youth soccer circuit that season, Iafrati restarted the program with the a U9 program Oakville Blue Stars in 1999. Canadian Premier League
The Canadian Premier League (CPL or CanPL; french: Première ligue canadienne, links=no) is a professional men's Association football, soccer league in Canada. At the top of the Canadian soccer league system, it is the country's primary national soccer league competition. The league consists of eight teams, from five of provinces and territories of Canada, Canada's ten provinces. Each team plays 28 games in the regular season which is followed by playoffs culminating in the Canadian Premier League Finals, CPL Finals. 2020 League1 Ontario Season
The 2020 Men's League1 Ontario season would have been the seventh season of play for League1 Ontario (L1O), a Division 3 men's soccer league in the Canadian soccer pyramid and the highest level of soccer based in the Canadian province of Ontario. For the first time this year, the league's entry in the 2021 Canadian Championship, the top national tournament for men's soccer teams, was to be determined by a "Champions Final", to be played between the regular season champions and the playoff champions. On March 20, 2020, L1O postponed the start of the season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2019 Men's League1 Ontario season was the sixth season of play for League1 Ontario, a Division 3 men's soccer league in the Canadian soccer pyramid and the highest level of soccer based in the Canadian province of Ontario. The 2018 Men's League1 Ontario season was the fifth season of play for League1 Ontario, a Division 3 men's soccer league in the Canadian soccer pyramid and the highest level of soccer based in the Canadian province of Ontario. Vaughan Azzurri won the league championship and earned entry into the 2019 Canadian Championship; the top national tournament for men's soccer teams. Vaughan captured the league double for a second time by also winning the L1 Cup, a feat they first achieved in 2016. For the first time, the league expanded to include teams in the nation's capital, Ottawa, allowing it to span from the western to eastern borders of southern Ontario. The 2014 League1 Ontario season was the inaugural season of the Division 3 Ontario-based semi-professional Association football, soccer league. It began on May 30, featuring 10 teams. The league's first ever goal was scored by Toronto FC Academy player Dylan Sacramento. Teams Being the first year of the league, all teams are new to the league. Navid Rahman
Navid Rahman (born 26 May 1996) is a professional footballer who plays for the Woodbridge Strikers in League1 Ontario and the Pakistan national team. Club career In 2016–17, Rahman played in League1 Ontario for ProStars FC, making a total of 19 appearances and scoring two goals. In the summer of 2017, Rahman signed with Slovakian 2. Liga club Komárno alongside his brother Adel Rahman. In 2018, he joined Dutch club Achilles '29. Rahman returned to League1 Ontario in Canada in the summer of 2018, and made five appearances for ProStars that season. In the winter of 2018–19, he played indoor soccer in the Arena Premier League with Italy AC. In 2019, he made seven league appearances before leaving mid-season.
