Wong Nai Chung Road
Wong Nai Chung Road ( Chinese: 黃泥涌道) is a major road in Happy Valley, Hong Kong. It is a U-shaped road that encircles the southern and eastern sides of the Happy Valley Racecourse. Location Wong Nai Chung Road starts northeast at the junction with Leighton Road, then turns southward and meets Blue Pool Road at the southern residential area of the valley. It turns westward to Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital and then northwest to meet Morrison Hill Road and Queen's Road East and under the Wong Nai Chung Gap Flyover. The western side of the road on the west of the valley forms part of the eastern limits of the City of Victoria. Happy Valley () is an upper-income residential area in Hong Kong, located on Hong Kong Island. The area is bordered by Caroline Hill to the east, Jardine's Lookout to the south, Morrison Hill to the west, and Causeway Bay to the north. Administratively, it is part of Wan Chai District. Happy Valley Racecourse
The Happy Valley Racecourse is one of the two racecourses for horse racing and is a tourist attraction in Hong Kong. It is located in Happy Valley on Hong Kong Island, surrounded by Wong Nai Chung Road and Morrison Hill Road. The capacity of the venue is 55,000. History It was first built in 1845 to provide horse racing for the British people in Hong Kong. The area was previously swampland, but the only flat ground suitable for horse racing on Hong Kong Island. To make way for the racecourse, Hong Kong Government prohibited rice growing by villages in the surrounding area. The first race ran in December 1846. Over the years, horse racing became more and more popular among the Chinese residents. On 26 February 1918, a temporary grandstand collapsed, knocking over hot food stalls that set bamboo matting ablaze. In the fire that ensued at least 590 people died. Leighton Road () is a main road in Causeway Bay, Hong Kong. It begins east of Causeway Road and ends at the west of the junction with Morrison Hill Road and Canal Road. Blue Pool Road
Blue Pool Road is a road linking Happy Valley and Wong Nai Chung Gap on Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong. Location Blue Pool Road is divided into two sections. The first and longest section starts at Wong Nai Chung Road, opposite the southeastern part of Happy Valley Racecourse and continues uphill, until a roundabout at Tai Hang Road. The second section starts Tai Hang Road and continues uphill and ends in a dead end. History The road was previously occupied by Wong Nai Chung Village (黃泥涌村), which was settled by the Ngs (吳) and Yips (葉), both Hakkas from the Mainland, before British Colonization on Hong Kong Island. The City of Victoria, often called Victoria City or simply Victoria, was the ''de facto'' capital of Hong Kong during its time as a British dependent territory. Amigo () is a French and Western cuisine restaurant in Hong Kong. It was created by owner Yeung Wing Chung () and his staff. Yeung's wife came up with the Spanish name Amigo, meaning "friend". It is located on Wong Nai Chung Road, Happy Valley. Some of their signature dishes include: whole fresh Tasmanian lobster dishes, braised oxtail stew, foie gras, lobster bisque, scallop chowder, fish chowder, bisque d'escargot, roasted rack of lamb, Mongolian raw beef appetiser and warmed salted ox-tongue with mesclun salad, and of course their signature Napoleon celebration cake and soufflé History The first Amigo Restaurant opened in Causeway Bay in the middle of the 1967 riots. It survived that traumatic time and continued to grow within its first year of operation, later purchasing its own premises at Amigo Mansion in Happy Valley in 1976.
