Pyeongtaek
Pyeongtaek () is a city in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. Located in the southwestern part of the province, Pyeongtaek was founded as a union of two districts in 940, during the Goryeo dynasty. It was elevated to city status in 1986 and is home to a South Korean naval base and a large concentration of United States troops. The South Korean government plans to transform Pyeongtaek city to an international economic hub to coincide with the move of the United States Forces Korea (USFK) to Pyeongtaek. National Congress For New Politics
The National Congress for New Politics (; NCNP) was a political party of South Korea. History The party was formed in 1995 as the National Congress for New Politics after Kim Dae-jung returned to active politics following his retirement in 1992. The majority of the party's early supporters were former members of the opposition Democratic Party, formed in 1991. In the 1996 Parliamentary election the party managed to come a strong second, winning 79 seats. Later Kim's Democratic Party merged to the party. In the 1997 Presidential election, the party formed Alliance of DJP along with Alliance of Liberal Democrats, and Kim won the Presidency with 40% of the vote. Dozens of members of the party were killed in the crash of Korean Air Flight 801 in August 1997. 2016 South Korean Legislative Election
Legislative elections were held in South Korea on 13 April 2016. All 300 members of the National Assembly were elected, 253 from first-past-the-post constituencies and 47 from proportional party lists. The election was an upset victory for the liberal Democratic Party, which defied opinion polling by winning a plurality of seats in the election and defeating the ruling conservative Saenuri Party by one seat. In votes for party lists, however, Democratic Party came third, behind the Saenuri Party in first place and the new People Party in second. The election marked an upheaval in the South Korean party system, installing a hung parliament for the first time since 2000 and a three-party system for the first time since 1996.
