WomensHub
WomensHub is a Philippines-based non-government organisation that supports "women struggling for self-determination" in using ICTs, or information and communication technologies. This organisation recently completed three years as a collective. It joined the Asia-Pacific programme of the Association for Progressive Communications's Women Network Support Programme. Its focus, inter alia, has been to increase the visibility of gender and ICT issues during the Asia-Pacific NGO Conference for the Beijing Platform for Action held in mid-2004 in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand. WomensHub members there ran the internet access facility in the conference site, and provided user-support to conference participants. WomensHub wacreatedin December 2000 "to advance women and social movement issues in the field of ICTs." Association For Progressive Communications
The Association for Progressive Communications (APC) is an international network of organizations that was founded in 1990 to provide communication infrastructure, including Internet-based applications, to groups and individuals who work for peace, human rights, protection of the environment, and sustainability. Pioneering the use of ICTs for civil society, especially in developing countries, APC were often the first providers of Internet in their member countries. APC is a worldwide network of social activists who use the internet to make the world a better place. APC is both a network and an organisation. APC members are groups working in their own countries to advance the same mission as APC. APC has more than 59 members, mostly in Asia, Africa and Latina America, from five continents. Beijing Platform For Action
The Fourth World Conference on Women: Action for Equality, Development and Peace was the name given for a conference convened by the United Nations during 4–15 September 1995 in Beijing, China. At this conference, governments from around the world agreed on a comprehensive plan to achieve global legal equality, known as the Beijing Platform for Action. Background The founding United Nations charter (1945) included a provision for equality between men and women ( chapter III, article 8). Subsequently, from 1945 to 1975 various female officials within the United Nations and leaders of women's movements on the global stage attempted to turn these principles into action. The United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution ( resolution 3010) that 1975 should be International Women's Year. Women's Electronic Network Training
A woman is an adult female human. Prior to adulthood, a female human is referred to as a girl (a female child or adolescent). The plural ''women'' is sometimes used in certain phrases such as "women's rights" to denote female humans regardless of age. Typically, women inherit a pair of X chromosomes, one from each parent, and are capable of pregnancy and giving birth from puberty until menopause. More generally, sex differentiation of the female fetus is governed by the lack of a present, or functioning, SRY-gene on either one of the respective sex chromosomes.
