''Women Aren't Angels'' is a 1943 black and white British comedy film directed by Lawrence Huntington and starring Aldwych Theatre farceurs Robertson Hare and Alfred Drayton, with Polly Ward and Joyce Heron. Lawrence Huntington (1900–1968) was a UK, British film director, screenwriter and film producer, producer. Huntington was born in London on 9 March 1900, he directed more than thirty films following his debut feature ''After Many Years'' (1930). He later worked in television before his death in 1968. ''Women Aren't Angels'' is a 1941 play by the British writer Vernon Sylvaine and featured Robertson Hare, Alfred Drayton and Judy Kelly in its original cast. It ran at the Strand Theatre in London for only 65 performances, considerably shorter than other Sylvaine farces featuring Hare and Drayton during the decade. On Broadway it was known as ''All Men Are Alike''. Synopsis The proprietors of a music shop try to conceal the presence of a young woman at one of their homes from their domineering wives. They also become involved in a German espionage plot while serving with the Home Guard. Peter Gawthorne (1 September 1884 – 17 March 1962) was an Anglo-Irish actor, probably best known for his roles in the films of Will Hay and other popular British comedians of the 1930s and 1940s. Gawthorne was one of Britain's most called-upon supporting actors during this period. Early life and career He was born in 1884 in Queen's County (now County Laois) in Ireland, but spent most of his career in England. After two years at the ''Academy of Dramatic Art'', Gawthorne began a career on the London stage, eventually running up over twenty years experience there. Leslie Perrins
Leslie Perrins (7 October 1901 – 13 December 1962) was an English actor who often played villains. After training at RADA, he was on stage from 1922, and in his long career, appeared in well over 60 films. Hobbies Perrins and wife Violet were dog lovers, and he was a judge at Crufts in 1957, and president of the Welsh Corgi League from 1956 until his death. Their annual award, "The Leslie Perrins Memorial Trophy," is named after him. He wrote a book called 'Keeping a Corgi'. It was published in 1958. Ethel Coleridge (14 January 1883 – 15 August 1976) was an English actress, best known for her roles in the original Aldwych farces in the 1920s and 1930s.
