Women's association football, more commonly known simply as women's football or women's soccer, is a team sport of association football when played by women only. It is played at the professional level in multiple countries and 176 national teams participate internationally. The history of women's football has seen competitions being launched at both the national and international levels. After the "first golden age" of women's football occurred in the United Kingdom in the 1920s, with one match attracting over 50,000 spectators, The Football Association instituted a ban from 1921 to 1970 in England that disallowed women's football on the grounds used by its member clubs. In many other nations, female footballers faced similarly hostile treatment and bans by male-dominated organisations. Hammarby IF Fotbollförening, commonly known as Hammarby IF, Hammarby Fotboll or simply Hammarby ( or, especially locally, ), is a women's football club from Stockholm founded in 1970. Hammarby play their home games at Hammarby IP (also called Kanalplan) in the Södermalm district of Stockholm, and occasionally at Zinkensdamms IP and Tele2 Arena. Competing in Sweden's first tier, Damallsvenskan, Hammarby are placed fifth in the all-time Damallsvenskan table, and has won the Swedish championship once, in 1985. The club's colours are green and white, which is reflected in its crest and kit. Since 2016, the club has been affiliated with Hammarby Fotboll, a men's team in Allsvenskan, and is a member of the Stockholms Fotbollförbund through its parent club. KIF Örebro DFF is a Swedish women's football club based in Örebro. Founded in 1980 as the women's football section of multi-sports association Karlslunds IF, the club's first team currently plays in the Damallsvenskan, the top level of the women's football pyramid in Sweden. The club also operates two reserve teams at the under-19 and under-17 levels, as well as a youth academy. Mallbackens IF is a football club from Mallbacken, 15 kilometres north of Sunne in Värmland, Sweden. The club was established in 1942 and played in the Women's premier division (Damallsvenskan) for the first time in 1986. They currently play in Sweden's second division, the Elitettan. Linköpings FC
Linköpings Fotboll Club is an association football club from Linköping, Sweden. The club was established in 2003 when Kenty DFF women's football club decided to merge with the premier division ice hockey club Linköpings HC under the new name Linköpings FC. The club's goal was both to establish women's football as a sport in Linköping and eventually become one of the top four teams. History In 2004, Linköpings FC finished their first year in the women's premier division (Damallsvenskan) in sixth place. The following two seasons the club reached its goal of finishing top four in the league with a fourth-place finish in 2005 and a third-place finish in 2006. The club also won Svenska Cupen ("The Swedish Cup") for the first time in 2006, defeating Umeå IK 3–2 in the cup final. They finished sixth in 2007 which was a failure for the club. Kristianstads DFF
Kristianstads DFF is a women's association football club from Kristianstad, Sweden. The club is affiliated to the Skånes Fotbollförbund. History The original club Wä IF played in from 1989 to 1994 in the Damallsvenskan. The club was reformed in 1998 when Kristianstads FF merged with Wä IF to become Kristianstad / Wä DFF. The team continued as Kristianstad / Wä DFF during the seasons of 1999 until 2001 in the Damallsvenskan. In 2006 was the club was renamed again to the current name Kristianstads DFF. Prominent players to have represented the club include Malin Andersson, Therese Sjögran, Sara Johansson and Nilla Fischer. In 2005 the team finished third in the Söderettan, before winning the Söderettan unbeaten in 2008 and clinching promotion to the Damallsvenskan.
