Women's Week Provincetown
Women's Week Provincetown (formerly Women's Weekend) is an annual LGBT festival founded in 1984 that primarily serves lesbians. Held in mid-October in Provincetown, Massachusetts on Cape Cod, it is attended by almost 2,000 women and is "the longest running lesbian cultural event in the Northeast." Organized by Women Innkeepers of Provincetown, the week hosts over 300 events, including film screenings, author readings, dune tours, concerts, dance parties, stand-up comedy, ceremonies, and community clambake. Club Skirts Dinah Shore Weekend, popularly known as “The Dinah”, is a five-day weekend getaway and music festival catering to the lesbian community that takes place annually in Palm Springs, California, United States. History The Dinah Shore Weekend was named after the late Dinah Shore – a singer, TV personality and renowned golfer, who was not a lesbian. Born Frances Rose Shore, in 1916, she lived in the Coachella Valley and is credited for having founded in Palm Springs the Colgate-Dinah Shore Winner's Circle women's golf tournament, now known as the LPGA's ANA Inspiration. The Dinah initially coincided with the ANA Inspiration tournament, which took place the same weekend. Circuit Party
A circuit party is a large dance event. It extends through the night and into the following day, almost always with a number of affiliated events in the days leading up to and following the main event. Proto-circuit parties in the late 1970s, the precursors of what later became circuit parties, were called disco parties. They lasted only one evening and were held in various large venues in metropolitan areas with large gay populations. Circuit parties were first developed in connection with the early tea dances, attended by a subset of gay men, as well as theme parties held on Fire Island, in the days before the beginning of the health crisis of HIV/AIDS. They came to resemble underground rave parties in some respects, but differ in that circuit parties are highly publicized and professionally produced, and tend to attract people from a wider age range and a broader geographic area. SuperShe Island
SuperShe Island is a female-owned private island, exclusively for women, located off the coast of the Baltic Sea. The island is administratively located in the town of Raseborg, Finland, while the SuperShe community is global. Overview The 8.4-acre island was bought by American entrepreneur, Kristina Roth, former owner of the tech consulting company Matisia Consultants. Roth sold her company in 2016 for $65 million in revenue, and purchased the island in 2017 to transform it into a women-only space. The island was open to the SuperShe community on June 23, 2018. Michigan Womyn's Music Festival
The Michigan Womyn's Music Festival, often referred to as MWMF or Michfest, was a feminist women's music festival held annually from 1976 to 2015 in Oceana County, Michigan, on privately owned woodland near Hart Township referred to as "The Land" by Michfest organizers and attendees. The event was built, staffed, run, and attended exclusively by women, with girls, young boys and toddlers permitted. From 1991, the festival excluded trans women, adopting a " womyn-born womyn" policy, which drew increasing criticism. The festival was picketed by Camp Trans starting in the 1990's for its exclusionary policy. LGBT advocacy group Equality Michigan boycotted the event in 2014.
