Women's Ski Jumping USA
Women's Ski Jumping USA is a non-profit organization responsible for the operational funding and support of the U.S. Women's ski jumping team. The organization administers funding for coaching, travel, training, equipment and development programs. Each year, based on established criteria, the top women in the United States are named to the VISA women's ski jumping team. Working with the United States Ski and Snowboard Association, Women's Ski Jumping USA prepares the top women in ski jumping for national and international competition. Ski Jumping
Ski jumping is a winter sport in which competitors aim to achieve the farthest jump after sliding down on their skis from a specially designed curved ramp. Along with jump length, competitor's aerial style and other factors also affect the final score. Ski jumping was first contested in Norway in the late 19th century, and later spread through Europe and North America in the early 20th century. Along with cross-country skiing, it constitutes the traditional group of Nordic skiing disciplines. The ski jumping venue, commonly referred to as a ''hill'', consists of the jumping ramp (''in-run''), take-off table, and a landing hill. Each jump is evaluated according to the distance traveled and the style performed. The distance score is related to the construction point (also known as the ''K-point''), which is a line drawn in the landing area and serves as a "target" for the competitors to reach. The Winter Olympic Games (french: link=no, Jeux olympiques d'hiver) is a major international multi-sport event held once every four years for sports practiced on snow and ice. Sarah Hendrickson
Sarah Catherine Hendrickson (born August 1, 1994) is an American retired ski jumper. She won the inaugural women's World Cup season in 2012, finished runner-up in 2013, and won an individual gold medal at the 2013 World Championships. Career Hendrickson was born in Salt Lake City, Utah. She attended Park City High School until 2011, when she began competing in the Ski Jumping World Cup. During this she moved to The Winter Sports School in Park City, where she graduated in November 2012. In the first ever women's World Cup season in 2011/12, Hendrickson dominated by winning nine competitions; her first being on December 3, 2011 in Lillehammer. The 2012/13 season saw her win four World Cup competitions while finishing runner-up to nearest rival Sara Takanashi. Alissa Johnson
Alissa Johnson (born May 28, 1987) is an American ski jumper, who has been ranked in the top ten in the world. She was involved in the drive to add women's ski jumping to the Winter Olympics, being featured in the film '' Ready to Fly''. Johnson attempted to qualify for the event when it was included in the programme at the 2014 Games but was not selected for the US team. Nina Lussi
Nina Lussi (born March 29, 1994, in Lake Placid, New York) is an American ski jumper and four-time national champion. As a young jumper, Lussi won several Junior Olympic titles in Special Jumping and Nordic Combined. She also competed in track and field in the 400 meters and triple jump. Her debut on the international circuit was in 2009 at the Junior World Championships in Strebske Pleso, Slovakia, where she placed 26th. Nina Lussi graduated from the AustriaSchigymnasium Stamsin 2013 and went on to study business at the University of Utah. Lussi's best results are the Continental Cup competitions in Falun, Sweden (March 1, 2014, March 2, 2014), where she placed 1st and 2nd respectively.
