Women's List
The Women's List or Women's Alliance ( is, Samtök um kvennalista), also called Kvennalistinn and abbreviated KL, was a feminist political party in Iceland that took part in national politics from 1983 to 1999. The party held three seats in the parliament elected in 1983, six seats in 1987, five seats in 1991 and three seats in 1995. In 1999 it formed an alliance with three other left wing and centre-left parties called the Social Democratic Alliance, which then merged into a party by that name in 2000. However, about half the members of the Women's List disapproved of this and chose to join the Left-Green Movement instead. Ingibjörg Sólrún Gísladóttir, former leader of the Alliance and former Minister of Foreign Affairs started her political career in the Women's List, and was Mayor of Reykjavík as a member of that party. The Social Democratic Alliance ( is, Samfylkingin - jafnaðarflokkur Íslands), officially The Alliance – Iceland's Social Democratic Party, is a social democratic, and pro-European political party in Iceland. The Social Democratic Alliance was founded in 2000 after a merger of four centre-left political parties (the National Awakening, the People's Alliance, the Social Democratic Party and the Women's List) following a joint run by all parties in the 1999 Icelandic parliamentary election. The vision of the party was to unite the left-wing of Icelandic politics, which had been fractured since the 1930 split of the Social Democratic Party, and present a united bloc to oppose the ruling Independence Party. Þórhildur Þorleifsdóttir (born 25 March 1945) is an Icelandic theater, opera, film and television director, actress, dancer, choreographer and politician. Kristín Halldórsdóttir (20 October 1939 – 14 July 2016) was an Icelandic Women's List politician, journalist and schoolteacher who served two separate terms in the Althing from 1983 to her resignation in 1989 and again between 1995 and 1999. She taught at in Kópavogur for two winters between 1964 and 1966 and she worked was a journalist at ''Tíminn'' and editor of the weekly newspaper ''Vikuna'' from 1974 to 1979.
