The Women's Euro Winners Cup (WEWC) is an annual continental beach soccer club competition contested between top-division European women's teams; the clubs that are their country's national league/cup champions (and, for some nations, one or more runners-up) from countries all across Europe take part. Organised by Beach Soccer Worldwide (BSWW), the championship is viewed as the sport's version of the UEFA Women's Champions League in association football. Offering the strongest level of club competition in Europe, it is the most prestigious women's club beach soccer championship in Europe; the winners become continental champions. The first edition took place in 2016, following the founding of the men's edition three years prior. It takes place within the framework of the larger men's version of the tournament, happening during the same dates and location over the course of about a week. Beach Soccer Worldwide
Beach Soccer Worldwide (BSWW) is the organisation responsible for the founding and growth of association football's derivative sport of beach soccer. The founding partners of BSWW codified the rules of beach soccer in 1992, with BSWW as it is known today having been officially founded in late 2000 as a singular institution to develop the sport and organise international beach soccer competitions across the globe, primarily between national teams. The company is recognised as playing the biggest role in helping to establish the rules of beach soccer, to spread and evolve the sport around the world as cited by FIFA who took on governing body status of the sport from BSWW in 2005. Alba Mellado (born 18 March 1992) is a Spanish football striker, currently playing for Santa Teresa. Football career With Rayo Vallecano, Mellado took part in the 2011–12 Champions League. Anaëlle Wiard (born 23 March 1991) is a Belgian football, futsal and beach soccer player, who has made 16 appearances for the Belgium women's national football team. At club level, she most recently played football for and beach soccer for Playas San Javier. Club career Wiard plays as a striker. The championship is the sport's version of the UEFA Women's Champions League in association football. Organised by Beach Soccer Worldwide (BSWW), the tournament was held in Nazaré, Portugal, in tandem with the larger men's edition. The 2019 Women's Euro Winners Cup was the fourth edition of the Women's Euro Winners Cup (WEWC), an annual continental beach soccer tournament for women's top-division European clubs. The championship is the sport's version of the UEFA Women's Champions League in association football. Organised by Beach Soccer Worldwide (BSWW), the tournament was held in Nazaré, Portugal from 1 June till 9 June 2019, in tandem with the larger men's edition. The event began with a round robin group stage. At its conclusion, the best teams progressed to the knockout stage, a series of single elimination games to determine the winners, starting with the Round of 16 and ending with the final. Consolation matches were also played to determine other final rankings. WFC Zvezda of Russia were the defending champions, but were knocked out in round of 16 by AIS Playas de San Javier from Spain, ultimately finishing in 10th place.
