Wolseley Racing
Wolseley Racing consisted of a number of motor car racing efforts between 1903 and 1969 supported by Wolseley Motor Company which resulted in many victories and helped promote the brand and prowess of the company. In addition to the company-sponsored racing there were individuals who entered Wolseley cars or cars with Wolseley motors into races. The history of Wolseley Racing can be split into three periods matching the history of the automobile: # The early days before World War I when the automotive industry and racing was in its infancy # between the wars after production was switched from a war effort back to domestic products and the innovations of WW1 had been applied to engine technology and # from after World War II to the present day. Wolseley Motor Company
Wolseley Motors Limited was a British motor vehicle manufacturer founded in early 1901 by the Vickers Armaments in conjunction with Herbert Austin. It initially made a full range, topped by large luxury cars, and dominated the market in the Edwardian era. The Vickers brothers diedin 1914 and 1919 respectively and, without their guidance, Wolseley expanded rapidly after the war, manufacturing 12,000 cars in 1921, and remained the biggest motor manufacturer in Britain. Over-expansion led to receivership in 1927 when it was bought from Vickers Limited by William Morris, 1st Viscount Nuffield, William Morris as a personal investment. He moved it into his Morris Motors empire just before the World War II, Second World War. After that, Wolseley products were "badge-engineered" Morris cars. Charles Jarrott (racing Driver)
Charles Jarrott (26 March 1877 – 4 January 1944) was an English racing car driver and businessman. Jarrott raced from 1900 to 1904, winning the 1902 Circuit des Ardennes race and competing in the 1903 and 1904 Gordon Bennett Cup races. He was the chair of the Motor Cycling Club's Annual Dinner at the Trocadero on Saturday 12 December 1913. He co-founded a car import firm in 1902 and was a founder member of the Automobile Association (the AA), serving as chairman in 1922. Family life Jarrott was born at 25 Hendon Street, Pimlico, London, to Martha (née Rosser) and Robert Jarrott, a blacksmith's labourer. He had three elder sisters. Alec Poole
Alec Poole is an Irish motor racing driver from Dublin. He competed successfully in saloon and sports car races in Great Britain throughout the 1960s. In 1969 he won the British Touring Car Championship in a privately entered Mini Cooper S. In 1968 he managed a fifteenth place in the 1968 24 Hours of Le Mans, driving for BMC in an Austin-Healey Sprite. He managed a third-place finish in the 1978 24 Hours of Daytona. Wolseley Hornet (Mini)
The Mini is a small, two-door, four-seat car, developed as ADO15, and produced by the British Motor Corporation (BMC) and its successors, from 1959 through 2000. Minus a brief hiatus, original Minis were built for four decades and sold during six, from the last year of the 1950s into the last year of the 20th century, over a single generation, as fastbacks, estates, and convertibles. The original Mini is considered an icon of 1960s British popular culture. Its space-saving transverse engine and front-wheel drive layout – allowing 80% of the area of the car's floorpan to be used for passengers and luggage – influenced a generation of car makers.
