Wollongong Railway Station
Wollongong railway station is a heritage-listed railway station on the South Coast railway line in New South Wales, Australia. It serves the central business district of Wollongong. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999. History The original Wollongong railway station (Platform 2) was constructed in 1887. The Platform 2 refreshment room, which is still in use today, was constructed in 1890. The Platform 1 station and refreshment room were constructed in 1923 and 1926 respectively. The single-track line opened on 21 June 1887 with an extension to Bombo opened on 9 November 1887 and finally on 3 October 1888 the connection to the northern Sydney section was made. Due to its busy coal industries and The Port of Wollongong, Wollongong Station was regarded as the major station on the Illawarra line and it remains that to the present due to the growth of Port Kembla, the steelworks and the major population. Wollongong ( ), colloquially referred to as The Gong, is a city located in the Illawarra region of New South Wales, Australia. The name is believed to originate from the Dharawal language, meaning either 'five islands/clouds', 'ground near water' or 'sound of the sea'. Wollongong lies on the narrow coastal strip between the Illawarra Escarpment and the Pacific Ocean, 85 kilometres (53 miles) south of central Sydney. The station serves NSW TrainLink diesel multiple unit trains traveling south to and electric multiple unit trains north to and Sydney. Premier Transport Group is an Australian operator of bus and coach services in New South Wales and Queensland. Its origins can be traced back to December 1987 when John King purchased Nowra Coaches. Bundanoon Railway Station
Bundanoon railway station is a heritage-listed railway station on the Main South line in New South Wales, Australia. It serves the small town of Bundanoon. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999. History The station opened on 6 August 1868 as Jordans Crossing, being renamed Jordans Siding in 1878 and finally Bundanoon in 1881. The station has a signal box on platform 2 which controls a set of points just to the north of the station. Until the 2005 timetable one afternoon train a day terminated using this setup, the train arriving on platform 1 using the set of points, and departing back towards Campbelltown. This practice was discontinued, the signal box and points closed and the route curtailed to end at Moss Vale. Bundanoon station celebrated 150 years since it opened on Sunday 5 August 2018. The Endeavour Railcars are a class of diesel multiple units operated by NSW TrainLink on passenger rail services in New South Wales, Australia on the Hunter, Blue Mountains (to Bathurst), Southern Highlands and South Coast lines (between Kiama and Bomaderry). They are mechanically identical to the Xplorers. All 30 carriages were built by ABB Transportation in Dandenong, Victoria. Fourteen two-carriage sets were ordered in April 1992 to replace Class 620/720 railcars, DEB set railcars and locomotive hauled stock, with the first entering service in March 1994. In November 1994, one further two-carriage set was ordered. All are scheduled to be replaced in the early 2020s by the NSW TrainLink Regional Train Project.
