Wolfgang Hilbig
Wolfgang Hilbig (31 August 1941 2 June 2007) was a German writer and poet. Life Wolfgang Hilbig was born in Meuselwitz, Germany. His grandfather had emigrated from Biłgoraj (Congress Poland, Russian Empire) before the First World War. In 1942, his father was reported missing at Stalingrad, leaving behind Hilbig and his mother. After his schooling in his home town, Hilbig began to work at a boring mill. Later, after military service, he worked as a tool maker and in assembly construction at the Meuselwitz lignite mine. In 1978, Hilbig moved to East Berlin, and in 1979 he became an independent writer. In 1985, he left the GDR with a travel visa and moved to West Germany. He lived in Berlin after the fall of the Berlin Wall and married writer and translator Natascha Wodin in 1994. They had one daughter and divorced in 2002. Meuselwitz
Meuselwitz () is a town in the Altenburger Land district, in Thuringia, Germany. It is situated 12 km northwest of Altenburg and 11 km east of Zeitz. History During World War II, a subcamp of the Buchenwald concentration camp operated here. It provided slave labour for HASAG, the third largest consumer of forced labour during the war. All satellites of Buchenwald were HASAG factories. The Meuselwitz plant used 1,666 prisoners, of which, 1,376 were women. The SS charged less for women; they had a higher mortality rate. Ursula März (born 1957) is a German author and literary critic-commentator. Life Ursula März was born at Herzogenaurach, a mid-sized town on the edge of Erlangen in Franconia (Bavaria). She completed her schooling at nearby Erlangen, a pupil at the Humanistisches Gymnasium Fridericianum (secondary school). Decades later, in an essay concerning her first holiday on the Baltic Sea (and the first time in her life, already aged 16, she had seen the sea) she wrote about her school-days, including the pleasing recollection that "as a non-academic child he hadnot felt in any way disadvantaged t the school. März was taught, for a brief period, by Hannelore Schlaffer, then a temporary teacher who was at that time studying at the University of Erlangen. Bayerische Akademie der Schönen Künste in München (Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts) is an association of renowned personalities in Munich, Bavaria. It was founded by the Free State of Bavaria in 1948, continuing a tradition established in 1808 by the Royal Academy of Arts in Munich. Ryszard Wojnakowski (born 4 February 1956) is a Polish translator of German literature. Biography Born in Busko-Zdrój, Ryszard Wojnakowski studied from 1974 to 1978 Germanistik and from 1977 to 1979 Scandinavian Studies at the Jagiellonian University of Kraków. From 1983 to 1993 he worked as an editor at Wydawnictwo Literackie. Since 1993 he has been translating literature – all in all about 100 books, plays and librettos. He is living in Kraków.
