Wolfchase, Memphis
Wolfchase is a neighborhood located adjacent to the Bartlett city limits in northeastern Memphis, Tennessee, United States, and is a part of the Memphis metropolitan area. Its name is derived from its proximity to the Wolf River. History The area began to attract development in the late 1980s. It is home to the largest shopping mall in the Memphis region, the Wolfchase Galleria, huge shopping areas, as well as many restaurants, and an Ikea. The area is centered and grew around the important intersections of Germantown Parkway with Interstate 40 and Stage Road (U.S. Route 64). It is situated roughly between the Cordova area and the suburb of Bartlett. Confusing many visitors, a sign off I-40 labels the area as "Uptown Memphis". Bartlett, Tennessee
Bartlett is a city in Shelby County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 57,786 at the 2020 U.S. Census. History Bartlett, originally called "Union Depot", first served as the last major Tennessean depot along the westward stagecoach route from Nashville. It later shifted to serve as a rail station after the stagecoach route was replaced by the Memphis & Ohio Railroad. An agricultural community gradually emerged around the depot and subsequent station that saw little growth until after the American Civil War. The community saw quick growth during Reconstruction, and by 1886 was home to a school, two gristmills, three churches, several general stores, and about 300 inhabitants. Wolf River (Tennessee)
The Wolf River is a alluvial river in western Tennessee and northern Mississippi, whose confluence with the Mississippi River was the site of various Chickasaw, French, Spanish and American communities that eventually became Memphis, Tennessee. It is estimated to be about 12,000 years old, formed by Midwestern glacier runoff carving into the region's soft alluvial soil. It should not be confused with The Wolf River (Middle Tennessee) which flows primarily in Middle Tennessee and southern Kentucky. A shopping mall (or simply mall) is a North American term for a large indoor shopping center, usually anchored by department stores. Wolfchase Galleria is a regional shopping mall in northeast Memphis, Tennessee, United States. The mall is managed by Simon Property Group. It is located across the street from the Bartlett city limits at the intersection of Germantown Parkway and Interstate 40. Wolfchase Galleria features 117 stores and a food court. The anchor stores are Macy's, JCPenney, Dillard's, and Malco Theatres. There is 1 vacant anchor store that was once Sears. In 2015, Sears Holdings spun off 235 of its properties, including the Sears at Wolfchase Galleria, into Seritage Growth Properties. On October 15, 2018, it was announced that Sears would be closing as part of a plan to close 142 stores nationwide. Downtown Memphis, Tennessee is the central business district of Memphis, Tennessee and is located along the Mississippi River between Interstate 40 to the north, Interstate 55 to the south and I-240 to the east, where it abuts Midtown Memphis.
