Wolf Heckmann
Wolf "Hecki" Heckmann (10 February 1929 – 13 December 2006) was a German journalist. Biography Heckmann came to prominence in 1969 when he was appointed to edit the ''Hamburger Morgenpost'', at that time a mass-market daily newspaper which had been founded ten years earlier by the powerful Hamburg branch of the Social Democratic Party (SPD). The newspaper market at the time was changing, however, as the relentless growth in circulation by less didactically political titles – headed up by Bild – challenged the various newspapers established by the SPD after the war. In 1972, after not quite three years, he resigned the editorship of ''Morgenpost'' amid recriminations about falling circulation, missed opportunities and ill-considered strategy. The ''Hamburger Morgenpost'' (Hamburg Morning Post) (also known as Mopo) is a daily German newspaper published in Hamburg in tabloid format. As of 2006 the ''Hamburger Morgenpost'' was the second-largest newspaper in Hamburg after '' Bild Zeitung''. History and profile The ''Hamburger Morgenpost'' was founded in 1949 by the Hamburg section of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) with a circulation of 6,000 copies. Until the late 1950s, the circulation increased to 450,000 copies. When '' Bild Zeitung'' was brought out by the Axel Springer publishing house as a second tabloid serving Hamburg, the circulation of the ''Hamburger Morgenpost'' declined steadily. Due to the existing competition with other newspapers, such as the 1948 re-founded ''Hamburger Abendblatt'', there was a decline in interest in political party-owned newspapers in Hamburg. Scheibe Falke
The Scheibe SF-25 Falke ( en, Falcon) is a German touring motor glider developed from the earlier Bergfalke glider by Scheibe Flugzeugbau. Since May 2006 the business has been run by Scheibe Aircraft GmbH. Development The company had produced the Motor Spatz but decided to produce a better light aircraft based on the Bergfalke glider. It had a new forward fuselage with an enclosed cockpit with two side-by-side seats and originally a Hirth F10A2a engine in the nose. It first flew in May 1963 as the SF-25A Motor Falke. After an initial batch of aircraft the wing was lowered and it was renamed as just the SF-25B Falke. A number of variants were built with various engines and the type was licence built by Sportavia-Putzer, Aeronautica Umbra (Italy), Loravia (France) and Slingsby (United Kingdom). ''Republikflucht'' (German for "desertion from the republic") was the colloquial term in the German Democratic Republic (East Germany) for illegal emigration to West Germany, West Berlin, and non-Warsaw Pact countries; the official term was ''Ungesetzlicher Grenzübertritt'' ("unlawful border crossing"). Brigitte Klump
Brigitte Klump (23 January 1935 – 10 July 2023) was a German author and campaigner. She was born into a relatively poor farming family, originally of Huguenot provenance. She grew up, between 1949 and 1957, in the German Democratic Republic (East Germany) where she trained as a journalist, before undertaking an internship at the Theater am Schiffbauerdamm in Berlin. Here she was mentored by Brecht's widow, the actress-director Helene Weigel. Klump escaped to West Berlin in 1957. Subsequently, invoking United Nations resolution 1503, she was able to help approximately 4,000 East German citizens escape to West Germany, thereby reuniting families divided by the political division of Germany. She later stated that this was, in part, a conscious atonement for the failings of a distant ancestor who had been a noted lawyer in Arles.
