Wokingham Borough Council is the local authority for the Borough of Wokingham, a unitary authority in Berkshire, England. Until 1 April 1998 it was a non-metropolitan district. 2006 Wokingham District Council Election
The 2006 Wokingham District Council election took place on 4 May 2006 to elect members of Wokingham Unitary Council in Berkshire, England. One third of the council was up for election and the Conservative Party stayed in overall control of the council. After the election, the composition of the council was: *Conservative 41 *Liberal Democrat 13 Campaign The election saw the United Kingdom Independence Party put forward a candidate in all of the 18 wards which were being contested. This was the first time they had done this and meant they put forward more candidates than Labour who contested 16 of the wards. The 2004 Wokingham District Council election took place on 10 June 2004 to elect members of Wokingham Unitary Council in Berkshire, England. The whole council was up for election with boundary changes since the last election in 2003. The Conservative Party stayed in overall control of the council. Background Since 2003 boundary changes meant that almost every ward was changed from the previous election with the only ones that remained the same being Charvil, Norreys and Winnersh. The number of wards was also increased from 24 to 25, but the number of seats on the council remaining the same. The boundary changes meant the whole council was up for election for the first time since the unitary authority was founded in 1997. Before the election the Conservatives had 33 seats and had controlled the council since the 2002 election. The 2003 Wokingham District Council election took place on 1 May 2003 to elect members of Wokingham Unitary Council in Berkshire, England. One third of the council was up for election and the Conservative Party stayed in overall control of the council. The 2002 Wokingham District Council election took place on 2 May 2002 to elect members of Wokingham Unitary Council in Berkshire, England. One third of the council was up for election and the Conservative Party gained overall control of the council from no overall control. 2001 Wokingham District Council Election
The 2001 Wokingham District Council election took place on 7 June 2001 to elect members of Wokingham Unitary Council in Berkshire, England. One third of the council was up for election and the council stayed under no overall control. The previous election in 2000 saw both the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats win 27 seats. The Liberal Democrats took control of the administration 2 months later after one of the Conservative councillors, Nigel Rose, abstained enabling the Liberal Democrats to get the mayor's casting vote. The results of the 2001 election saw no change with both main parties remaining on the same number of seats. Overall turnout was significantly increased at 63.75% due to the election being held at the same time as the 2001 general election.
