Wok Tai Wan
Wok Tai Wan () was a bay on the northwest coast of Tsing Yi Island, Hong Kong. The beach in the bay was once a naturist resort. The difficulties involved in getting to the bay on foot with high its surrounding hills, or by small boat because of turbulence in the nearby sea, made it the ideal place for nudists to swim and sunbathe. Because of the resort, the bay once became an attraction for hikers even after the activities ceased. ''Wok Tai'' in Cantonese means the bottom of the ''wok'', a round-bottom pan. The bay named because its ''wok'' shape. Nudism In 1932, the European Herbert Edward Lanepart () set up a nudist club in Heung Fan Liu () in Sha Tin. He later sold the premises in 1938 because the building of Shing Mun Reservoir in 1935 and the Japanese invasion of China in 1937 seriously affected his business. Tsing Yi
Tsing Yi, sometimes referred to as Tsing Yi Island, is an island in the urban area of Hong Kong, to the northwest of Hong Kong Island and south of Tsuen Wan. With an area of , the island has extended drastically by reclamation along almost all its natural shore and the annexation of Nga Ying Chau () and Chau Tsai. Heung Fan Liu
Heung Fan Liu () is an area in Tai Wai, Sha Tin District, Hong Kong. History Heung Fan Liu derives its name from its former incense-making industry. Incense milling may have been conducted in Heung Fan Liu as early as the late Ming dynasty. It would have been processed in Heung Fan Liu and nearby Pak Tin. This local industry ceased at the time of the Great Clearance in the second half of the 17th century. Early 20th century maps show sandalwood mills in the area. This industry was made possible thanks to the presence of a fast flowing stream with a substantial year-round flow of water to power the water-wheel. Sites with similar characteristics also existed in Pak Kiu Tsai () in Tai Po and () in Tsuen Wan. Sha Tin
Sha Tin, also spelt Shatin, is a neighbourhood along Shing Mun River in the eastern New Territories, Hong Kong. Administratively, it is part of the Sha Tin District. Sha Tin is one of the neighbourhoods of the Sha Tin New Town project. The new town was founded in 1973 under the New Towns Development Programme of the Hong Kong government. Its current name was named after the nearby village of Sha Tin Wai. The literal English translation is 'Sand Fields'. History Tai Wai Village, located in Tai Wai, next to Sha Tin, and the oldest and largest walled village in Sha Tin District, was built in 1574, during the Ming Dynasty. Shing Mun Reservoir
Shing Mun Reservoir is a reservoir in Hong Kong. It is located in Shing Mun, the area between Tsuen Wan and Sha Tin, in the New Territories. History Several hundreds years ago, the area around the reservoir was a dense forest with very few inhabitants. At least from 1646 to 1659, Southern Ming loyalist Li Wanrong (李萬榮), leading a cohort numbering in thousands, controlled Kowloon and much of today's New Territories, collecting taxes and fortifying villages, including erecting a fortress in the lower part of the Shing Mun River valley. Hence the area became known as Shing Mun or "fortified gate". After 1669, when the Great Clearance imposed by the Kangxi Emperor of the Qing dynasty was rescinded, many Hakkas settled in this area, growing rice, tea and pineapples.
