Woestijnvis
Woestijnvis (literally: ''Desert Fish'') is an independent Flemish television production company based in Vilvoorde. History The name of the company refers to a famous mistake of a quiz-candidate in the Flemish version of Wheel of Fortune: the remaining letters were W . . ST . . NV . S and the participant answered "WOESTIJNVIS" (''Desert Fish''), the correct answer was "WOESTIJNVOS" (''Desert Fox''). The company was founded in 1997 by Jan Huyse, Wouter Vandenhaute and Erik Watté in close collaboration with Mark Uytterhoeven. The company rose to fame with its series '' The Mole'', variants of which were recorded and broadcast in various countries. Woestijnvis is now part of the holding which owns the Belgian TV-stations VIER and VIJF. Woenstijnvis was also the producer of the session whereby the Holocaust was mocked using Cent Wafers whereafter the Belgian public TV, VRT had to present their excuses. Wouter Vandenhaute
Wouter Vandenhaute (born 16 February 1962) is a Belgian Entrepreneur, Television producer and former sports-journalist. He is currently managing director of the Belgian media holding De Vijver, which includes the TV production company Woestijnvis and TV channel VIER. Vandenhaute married VRT sports journalist Catherine Van Eylen. Biography Wouter Vandenhaute was born in Ghent, the son of Godelieve Kiebooms and Gerard Vandenhaute. His grandfather was Louis Kiebooms, who was editor of the Gazet van Antwerpen for more than 10 years. ''Man bijt hond'' (Dutch: ''Man bites dog'') is a long-running Flemish TV programme. The show aired in Flanders and the Netherlands, with separate versions for each country. The Flemish version aired from 1997 to 2013, whilst the Netherlands version originally aired from 1999 to 2015, with a revival airing since 2019. The Flemish version, produced by Woestijnvis, aired for most of its run on Eén, before moving to VIER for its final year. The Netherlands version was produced under license by the NCRV (KRO-NCRV for the final year of its original run) and aired on NPO 1 until 2006, when it moved to NPO 2. The 2019 revival is produced, under license, by independent producer Fabiola and broadcast on SBS6. Format The show has a newsmagazine-style format with a large focus on human interest stories, voxpops and satirical sketches, with an often humorous and positive approach to presentation. In De Gloria
''In de Gloria'' ("In the Glory") was a 2000–01 Flemish TV sketch comedy show, directed by Jan Eelen and produced by the company ''Woestijnvis''. It was a mockumentary series which satirized reality television and human interest shows, especially the way regular people are exploited by media. The show ran on the Belgian public TV channel Canvas for two seasons of 10 episodes each. In Flanders itself, the series continues to enjoy significant popularity and critical praise, with several sketches having gained classic status. Despite the local popularity, the show has never been exported. Concept ''In de Gloria'' is a mockumentary in sketch show format. Every episode consists of a series of sketches that are mostly improvised around a central idea. The tone is tragicomical. Eelen based some of the spoof targets on pre-existing TV formats, including some shows of his own company, Woestijnvis. ''Alles Kan Beter (Everything Can Be Better)'' was a Belgian comedy TV series produced by Flemish production house Woestijnvis between the end of 1997 and 1999. It was broadcast on the public TV channel Canvas, directed by Jan Eelen and starred TV presenter Mark Uytterhoeven, chief editor of ''HUMO'' Guy Mortier and the newcomer on television at that time Rob Vanoudenhoven as regular hosts. The fourth presenter was a different guest every week. The program was a combination of humoristic commentary on archive footage taped from the Flemish TV channels VRT and its rival vtm and sketches starring the four hosts. The show achieved cult status and is still repeated regularly. ''De Mol'' (''The Mole'') is a Belgian reality game show that originally aired from 6 December 1998 to 19 March 2000 and again from 19 January to 16 March 2003 on TV1 with Michiel Devlieger as host. A revival has aired since 1 February 2016 on VIER with Gilles De Coster as host. The show won the famous Rose d'Or award in 2000. The format has been licensed in 40 countries from all around the world.
