Wittmund
Wittmund is a town and capital of the district of Wittmund, in Lower Saxony, Germany. Geography Wittmund is a town of 21,000 inhabitants located in Germany's historic coastal district of East Frisia, between the towns of Aurich and Jever. The town's borough covers an area of which make it one of the largest boroughs in Lower Saxony. While the town of Wittmund is about from the North Sea coast, its borough includes the little port of Harlesiel which is the starting point for ferries to the island of Wangerooge. Harlesiel is named after the Harle, a small river that starts and finishes within Wittmund borough. (A ''siel'' is a sluice in a dyke. At low tide, water from the river may flow into the sea.) Wittmund (district)
Wittmund is a ''Landkreis'' (district) in the northwestern part of Lower Saxony, Germany. It is situated in East Frisia, on the North Sea coast. Neighboring districts are (from the east clockwise) Friesland, Leer and Aurich. Geography The district contains part of the Wadden Sea and of the Lower Saxony Wadden Sea National Park. The coastal areas of the mainland are also known as ''Harlinger Land''. The islands of Langeoog and Spiekeroog, both belonging to the East Frisian Islands, are part of this district. History The district was created by the Kingdom of Prussia in 1885 from the Amt Wittmund, the Amt Esens and the City of Esens. All were previously part of the District of Aurich. Wittmundhafen Air Base
Wittmundhafen Air Base (german: link=yes, Fliegerhorst Wittmundhafen, ) is a military air base in Germany. It is home to Tactical Air Force Wing 71 (''Taktisches Luftwaffengeschwader 71'') of the German Air Force (''Luftwaffe''). Since May 1974 the F-4F Phantom II was operated from the base. German F-4F Phantoms at the base were retired on 29 June 2013. During 2013, the squadron transitioned to the Eurofighter Typhoon. Jever
Jever () is the capital of the district of Friesland in Lower Saxony, Germany. The name Jever is usually associated with a major brand of beer, Jever Pilsener, which is produced there. The city is also a popular holiday resort. Jever was granted city status in 1536. Unofficially Jever is sometimes referred to as ''Marienstadt'' (Maria city) in reference to Maria of Jever, the last independent ruler of the city. Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt
Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt (; born 12 August 1942 in Leerhafe, today part of Wittmund, East Frisia) is a German orthopedist. He gained recognition for his roles as Germany national football team doctor (1995–2018) and club doctor of Bayern Munich (1977–2015, 2017–2020). He initially resigned after him and his medical staff were blamed for a 3–1 loss to Porto in a UEFA Champions League match during the tenure of coach Pep Guardiola, but he rejoined after the reappointment of Jupp Heynckes as head coach. Having already resigned from his position at the Germany national football team in 2018, his second and final resignation at Bayern Munich also came into effect on the 30th of June 2020. Christian Alder (born 3 September 1978) is a German former professional footballer who played as a defender. Career Alder was born in Wittmund, Lower Saxony. Between 1997 and 2000 he played for Arminia Bielefeld through their relegation and promotion in and out of the Bundesliga. He then played for VfL Osnabrück (in 2001) and FC Augsburg (between 2002 and 2004). From 2004 to 2006 he played for SSV Jahn Regensburg; in 2006 he joined VfR Aalen and left the team in June 2009, to sign on 22 July 2009 with Anorthosis Famagusta.
