John Witherspoon College
John Witherspoon College is a non-denominational Christian liberal arts college in Rapid City, South Dakota. The college was founded in 2012 and named after the pastor, scholar and American Founding Father John Witherspoon. The college was created to serve both a local need for Christian higher education in the Black Hills and the broader interest for classic liberal-arts education in America. History In 2004, the Black Hills Bible Institute was founded by members of South Canyon Baptist Church in Rapid City, South Dakota. Its chief instigator was Dr. C. Richard Wells, a member of the founding faculty of Beeson Divinity School, former President of Criswell College, and the Pastor of South Canyon Baptist Church from 2004 to 2009. Witherspoon Cottage is a historic cure cottage in Saranac Lake, Franklin County, New York. It was built about 1910 as a boarding house and is a -story, square frame dwelling in the Queen Anne style. Witherspoon Building is a historic office building located in the Market East neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was designed by architect Joseph M. Huston (1866–1940) and built between 1895 and 1897. It was built for the Presbyterian Board of Publications and Sabbath School Work. It is an 11-story, steel frame "E"-shaped building, faced with brick and granite. It has terra cotta decorative elements. The Witherspoon Institute is a conservative think tank in Princeton, New Jersey. The Institute was founded in 2003 by Princeton University professor and conservative Robert P. George, Luis Tellez, and others involved with the James Madison Program in American Ideals and Institutions. A death-qualified jury is a jury in a criminal law case in the United States in which the death penalty is a prospective sentence. Such a jury will be composed of jurors who: #Are not categorically opposed to the imposition of capital punishment; #Are not of the belief that the death penalty must be imposed in all instances of capital murder—that is, they would consider life imprisonment as a possible penalty. The creation of such a jury requires the striking during ''voir dire'' of jurors who express opposition to the death penalty such that they are unable or unwilling to set aside personal, moral, or emotional objections toward the supporting of a death sentence, and is designed to produce a ''fair and impartial'' jury of which the members will fairly consider all options, including the death penalty and life imprisonment. Witherspoon Street School For Colored Children
The Witherspoon Street School for Colored Children educated the African-American children of Princeton, New Jersey from 1858 until the Princeton Public Schools were integrated in 1948. The school was originally located at the building still standing at 184 Witherspoon Street. As enrollment increased it moved, in 1909, to 35 Quarry Street. The Quarry Street building was expanded in 1939 and again in 1966, giving it its present appearance. The former school has since been turned into an apartment building. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 9, 2005, for its significance in education. With History and description The school is built with brick and features Colonial Revival architecture. An ornate cupola is centered on the roof.
