Anthony Xydias
Anthony J. Xydias (May 22, 1882 – October 27, 1952) was a film producer for such films as ''Heroes of the Alamo'' (1937), '' Devil's Canyon'' (1935), and ''Five Bad Men'' (1935). His career took off after he opened a theater in Dallas, Texas, in 1906. From this came a chain of successful theaters. He founded the film production company Sunset Pictures in 1922. Career A Greek-born American film executive, Anthony J. Xydias became a successful film exhibitor before founding Sunset Pictures in 1922. He wanted to produce inexpensive Westerns starring former rodeo rider Jack Hoxie beginning with ''Barb Wire'' (1922). Despite their meager budgets, the Hoxie oaters proved well above par for the period, but Xydias found himself without a star when Hoxie left Sunset Pictures in favor of Universal Pictures. James Lew Meehan (September 7, 1890 – August 10, 1951) was an American film actor. Meehan appeared in more than 200 films between 1921 and 1947. He was often the main villain in silent Westerns, but in sound films he was usually an "anonymous henchman". Meehan was born in Minnesota and died in Los Angeles, California. Meehan's daughter, Jean Stratton, was an actress. William Gerald Franey (June 23, 1889 – December 6, 1940) was an American film actor. Born in Chicago in 1889, Franey appeared in more than 400 films between 1914 and 1941, mostly playing comedic roles. He was an actor of disheveled appearance and fuzzy mustache, usually in a suit a couple of sizes too big. His late career included numerous uncredited appearances in classics like ''Bringing Up Baby'', and he also appeared as the father-in-law of Edgar Kennedy in several of his series of short comedies. Arthur Hotaling
Arthur Douglas Hotaling (February 3, 1873 – July 13, 1938) was an American film director, producer and writer. He directed 113 films between 1910 and 1928, including the 1914 film ''Outwitting Dad'', which featured the onscreen debut of Oliver Hardy. Hotaling was born in New York City. In August 1902 he married Maye Shearor who became the silent film actress Mae Hotely, her stage name was a play on his name. She appeared in some of his films and he also acted in some of them. He worked for Lubin for 11 years including time at the company's Jacksonville film studio. He died in California from a heart attack.
