WISE (AM)
WISE (1310 AM) is a radio station broadcasting a sports format. Licensed to Asheville, North Carolina, United States, it serves the Asheville area. The station is currently owned by the Asheville Radio Group of Saga Communications. The station is an affiliate of the Atlanta Braves radio network, the largest radio affiliate network in Major League Baseball. History For many years, WISE was a Top 40 radio station. In the 1980s, the station switched to adult standards, with most of the music coming from Stardust, an ABC Radio satellite format. Early in 2002, Asheville Radio Partners, part of American Media Services LLC in Charleston, South Carolina, bought WISE and WOXL-FM, along with the stations' building on Lookout Road. WISE-FM
WISE-FM is a Public Radio formatted broadcast radio station licensed to Wise, Virginia, serving Norton, Coeburn and Clintwood in Virginia. WISE-FM is owned and operated by Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. The station broadcasts in HD Radio; HD1 rebroadcasts the news/talk programming of Radio IQ and local programming of WEHC, while HD2 is a feed of WVTF Music. WISE-FM is one of three stations whose call signs spell out their city of license; the others are WACO-FM and WARE. Programming WISE-FM is a mix of national, international, and local programming. During the overnight and morning hours, WISE-FM airs the news and public affairs programs of parent station WVTF, including BBC World Service news, Morning Edition, All Things Considered, and 1A. WISE-TV (channel 33) is a television station in Fort Wayne, Indiana, United States, affiliated with The CW Plus. It is owned by Gray Television alongside ABC/NBC/MyNetworkTV affiliate WPTA (channel 21). Both stations share studios on Butler Road in Northwest Fort Wayne, where WISE-TV's transmitter is also located. WISE-TV originally operated as an NBC affiliate from its establishment through 2016, where as the result of Quincy Media's acquisition of WPTA (which had previously been operated by WISE's former owner, Granite Broadcasting, as part of a shared services agreement), the NBC affiliation became the property of Quincy and was moved to WPTA's second digital subchannel in exchange for its CW affiliation. The Web-based Inquiry Science Environment (WISE) is a program hosted by University of California, Berkeley and supported by the National Science Foundation. It provides a platform for creating inquiry-based science projects for middle school and high school students to work collaboratively using evidence and resources from the Web. WISE inquiry projects are typically developed by teams including teachers, researchers, and scientists. These projects range in duration from 2 days to 4 weeks, suitable for teachers in every science topic at all grade levels. The use of Internet materials provides the foundation of WISE. All projects make use of some content from the World Wide Web, as well as additional Web pages authored for purposes of the project. This approach helps students learn to use the Internet for inquiry, critiquing Web sites, designing approaches, or comparing arguments. The Wilberforce Institute for the Study of Slavery and Emancipation is a research institute at the University of Hull, in Kingston upon Hull, England. Housed in Oriel Chambers in Hull City Centre, since 2005, its aim is to research slavery in the past and the present.
