Fountain City is a small city bordering the Mississippi River in Buffalo County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 859 at the 2010 census. History Fountain City was originally called Holmes' Landing, after Thomas Holmes, who settled there in 1839. The exception is in Wood and Adams counties, where this highway runs east–west. It is one of the longer Wisconsin state highways.
