Wisconsin Badgers Men's Soccer
The Wisconsin Badgers men's soccer team is a varsity intercollegiate athletic team of University of Wisconsin–Madison in Madison, Wisconsin, United States. The team is a member of the Big Ten Conference, which is part of the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division I. Wisconsin's first men's soccer team was fielded in 1977. The team plays its home games at Dan McClimon Memorial Track/Soccer Complex. The Badgers are coached by Neil Jones. The Badgers' greatest success came during the mid-1990s, where the program won the NCAA championship and Big Ten Conference Men's Soccer Tournament in 1995. They won their second Big Ten Tournament in 2017. The program has produced professional soccer players including Sam Brotherton and A. J. Cochran. Neil Jones (footballer)
Neil Warren Jones (born 16 February 1982) is a New Zealand collegiate soccer coach and former professional footballer. Jones is the current head coach of the Wisconsin Badgers men's soccer team at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Early life and education Jones was born 16 February 1982 in Takapuna, New Zealand, to parents Fran and Barry Jones. Growing up in New Zealand, he spent time with many football clubs, among them Rangitoto (Juniors), East Coast Bays AFC, Dunedin Technical, Waitakere City F.C., and Westlake Boys High School. He would later attend the University of Otago briefly before transferring to the University of California, Santa Barbara. While at UCSB, Jones was a student-athlete on the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos men's soccer team, studying in the nationally-ranked UCSB Geography Program. 1995 Wisconsin Badgers Men's Soccer Team
The 1995 Wisconsin Badgers men's soccer team represented the University of Wisconsin–Madison during the 1995 NCAA Division I men's soccer season and the 1995 Big Ten Conference men's soccer season. It was the program's 19th season of existence and their 19th season in NCAA Division I and the Big Ten Conference. The 1995 season saw the Badgers win their first, and to date, only national championship. Played in front of the second-largest NCAA soccer crowd in history, Wisconsin beat Duke to win the 1995 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship. Additionally, the Badgers were, along with Indiana, co-champions of the 1995 Big Ten Conference Men's Soccer Tournament. Wisconsin would not win the title again until 2017. 2013 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship
The 2013 NCAA Division I men's soccer tournament was the 55th edition of the tournament. The four team College Cup finals tournament was held at PPL Park in Chester, Pennsylvania on December 13 and 15, 2013. On December 15, Notre Dame defeated Maryland, 2–1, to win its first national title. Qualified Teams A total of 48 teams qualified into the tournament proper, either automatically, or through an at-large bid that is determined by a selection committee. Each conference that field varsity soccer teams is awarded one automatic berth into the tournament. Depending on the conference, that automatic berth is either given the champions of the regular season, or the tournament that culminates the regular season. Twenty-two teams earn automatic bids into the tournament, while 26 enter through an at-large bid.
