Wisconsin's 5th Assembly District
The 5th Assembly District of Wisconsin is one of 99 districts in the Wisconsin State Assembly. Located in northeast Wisconsin, the district comprises most of the eastern half of Outagamie County, including the city of Kaukauna, as well as the town of Hobart in western Brown County. The district also includes nearly all of the Oneida reservation spanning the two counties. The district is represented by Republican Joy Goeben, since January 2023. The 5th Assembly district is located within Wisconsin's 2nd Senate district, along with the 4th and 6th Assembly districts. History The district was created in the 1972 redistricting act1971 Wisc. Act 304 which first established the numbered district system, replacing the previous system which allocated districts to specific counties. Tom Nelson (Wisconsin Politician)
Thomas M. Nelson (born March 3, 1976) is an American public administrator and politician serving as the county executive of Outagamie County, Wisconsin, since 2011. A member of the Democratic Party, Nelson previously served in the Wisconsin State Assembly for six years, and was the Democratic majority leader for the 2009–2010 session. He was a candidate in the 2022 Democratic primary election for the United States Senate, he withdrew from the race in late July and endorsed Mandela Barnes. Nelson was an unsuccessful candidate for United States House of Representatives in 2016 and for lieutenant governor in 2010. Shawano County, Wisconsin
Shawano County (pronounced SHAW-no) (originally Shawanaw County) is a county located in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. As of the 2020 census, the population was 40,881. Its county seat is Shawano. Shawano County is included in the Shawano, WI Micropolitan Statistical Area, which is also included in the Green Bay-Shawano, WI Combined Statistical Area. History Its name is from a modified Ojibwa term meaning "southern"; it was the southern boundary of the Ojibwa nation. A Menominee chief named ''Sawanoh'' led a band that lived in the area. Green Bay is a city in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. Becky Weber (born September 24, 1954) is an American small business owner and Republican politician from the U.S. state of Wisconsin. She served one term in the Wisconsin State Assembly (2003–2005) representing Wisconsin's 5th Assembly district. Lee Meyerhofer (born June 11, 1964) is a former member of the Wisconsin State Assembly for the 5th District. Biography Meyerhofer was born on June 11, 1964, in Kaukauna, Wisconsin. Shorewood, Wisconsin
Shorewood is a village in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 13,859 at the 2020 census. History In the early 19th century when the first European American settlers arrived, the Shorewood area was controlled by Native Americans, including the Menominee, Potawatomi, and Sauk people. The United States Federal Government acquired the land from the Menominee people in 1832 through the '' Treaty of Washington''. The land was organized as part of the Town of Milwaukee in 1835, and when settlers arrived in the mid-1830s, they found the area to be heavily forested. Betty Jo Nelsen (born October 11, 1935) is a retired American politician and former Minority Leader of the Wisconsin State Assembly.
