Winter Park Public Library
The Winter Park Library is a nonprofit lending library in Winter Park, Florida. History The library was founded in 1885 by a group of nine women, who came together to create a library for the community of Winter Park. Books had previously been circulated in an organized reading circle, with no library existing within the small community. The construction of the South Florida Railroad and the opening of Rollins College in 1885 enhanced the town's image as a desirable place to live. With the intent of creating a lending library for the community, this group of women held a meeting at the Congregational Parsonage, now the location of the Rollins campus, near the current site of the Archibald Granville Bush Science Center. The president was Mrs. Elizabeth P. Hooker, the wife of a doctor and Congregational minister, as well as the president of Rollins College. Racial integration, or simply integration, includes desegregation (the process of ending systematic racial segregation). The Orange County Library System (OCLS) is a public library system located in the Orlando, Florida, Orlando area of Central Florida. William Pope Duval
William Pope Duval (September 4, 1784 – March 19, 1854) was the first civilian governor of the Florida Territory, succeeding Andrew Jackson, who had been a military governor. In his twelve-year governorship, from 1822 to 1834, he divided Florida into four territories, established the local court system, and chose Tallahassee as the territory's capital because of its central location. Motorboat
