Winnipeg Fury
The Winnipeg Fury were a professional soccer team in Winnipeg, Canada. The team was part of the Canadian Soccer League from 1987 to 1992. They were one of four teams to participate in every season of the CSL. In 1993, they played in the Canadian National Soccer League. History The Fury were founded by Ralph Cantafio, who served as team president and chairman of the board. The club served as the first iteration of professional soccer in the province of Manitoba. Debuting in the inaugural 1987 CSL season, the Fury struggled winning only five of their twenty games, finishing last in their division. They improved in their second season, qualifying for the playoffs, defeating Calgary in the first round, before falling to eventual champions Vancouver. University Stadium (Winnipeg)
University Stadium is a multipurpose stadium located on the campus grounds of the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. It features a 400m 8-lane track, as well as separate areas for long jump/triple jump, high jump, pole vault, discus, hammer, shot put, and javelin. Inside the track is a large natural grass field used for football and soccer. The stadium was home to the Manitoba Bisons football program until the team relocated next door to Investors Group Field in 2013. USL League Two (USL2), formerly the Premier Development League (PDL), is a semi-professional developmental association football, soccer league sponsored by United Soccer Leagues in the United States and Canada, forming part of the United States soccer league system. Jeff Cambridge (born 22 November 1966) is a Canadian retired association football player who earned 7 caps for the Canadian national side between 1984 and 1987. Garrett Caldwell
Garrett Evan James Caldwell (born 6 November 1973) is an American-born Canadian former soccer player who played as a goalkeeper in the Football League for Colchester United. He represented Canada at under-20 and under-23 levels. Club career Born in Princeton, New Jersey, Caldwell attended University of British Columbia, playing for the men's soccer team, British Columbian Tigers. He also played for Canadian Soccer League team Winnipeg Fury. Caldwell moved to England in 1995 to play for Football League club Colchester United. Nico Berg
Nicolas "Nico" Berg (born September 11, 1973) is a retired Canadian soccer midfielder. Player Club Played youth soccer with the Lynn Valley Falcons and was a member of the UBC Thunderbirds men's varsity soccer team. Berg played in the Canadian Soccer League in 1992 with the London Lasers. In 1993, he played in the Canadian National Soccer League with Winnipeg Fury. In 1994, Berg joined the Vancouver 86ers in the American Professional Soccer League. Berg did not play in 2000, but returned to the team in 2001. That season, the 86ers were renamed the Whitecamps. Geoff Aunger
Geoffrey "Geoff" Edward Ramer Aunger (born 4 February 1968 in Red Deer, Alberta) is a former Canadian soccer player. He played in various Canadian leagues and the lower tiers of the English leagues system before playing in the United States in the A-League and Major League Soccer. Aunger was also a member of the Canadian national soccer team member. Tomas Antonelius
Tomas Emil Rune Antonelius (born Tomas Gustafsson; 7 May 1973) is a Swedish former professional footballer who played as a defender. He played professionally in Sweden, Canada, England, and Denmark, before injuries cut his career short. 1992 Canadian Soccer League Season
The 1992 Canadian Soccer League season was the sixth and final season of play for the Canadian Soccer League, a Division 1 men's soccer league in the Canadian soccer pyramid. Format and changes from previous season Shortly before the 1992 season, the Hamilton Steelers, Nova Scotia Clippers, and Kitchener Kickers folded. The league was not doing well financially either and Montreal Supra owner Frank Aliaga was named the new league president, replacing the interim president Mario DiBartolomeo, who was the owner of the now-folded Hamilton Steelers. Hamilton folded despite offers of cost sharing with the Vancouver and Montreal team owners. The London Lasers returned from a one-year hiatus, leaving the league with a six-team division. The 1991 Canadian Soccer League season was the fifth season of play for the Canadian Soccer League, a Division 1 men's soccer league in the Canadian soccer pyramid. Format and changes from previous season Prior to the 1991 season, the league placed four franchises under suspension – Ottawa Intrepid, Edmonton Brick Men, Victoria Vistas, and London Lasers – due to financial difficulties. Ultimately, Ottawa, Edmonton, and Victoria folded, while London requested a one-year leave of absence. To avoid similar problems that the now defunct NASL had in its final year of operation, the league approved a $175,000 salary cap per team to further limit costs.
