Winifred Holtby School
Winifred Holtby Academy (previously Bransholme High School, Winifred Holtby School, Winifred Holtby Technology College) is a coeducational secondary school located in the Bransholme area of Kingston upon Hull in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. The school is named after Winifred Holtby, a novelist and journalist who is best known for her novel '' South Riding''. Originally known as Bransholme High School, the school was later renamed Winifred Holtby School, and some time later, Winifred Holtby Technology College. In May 2013 Winifred Holtby School converted to academy status and was renamed Winifred Holtby Academy. The school was given a substantial £38 million rebuild in 2011 under the Building Schools for the Future scheme and was twinned with Tweendykes Special School, who now share a small section of the building, and was opened in September 2011 following a minor delay caused by the collapse of the school's furniture supplier. Academy (English School)
An academy school in England is a state-funded school which is directly funded by the Department for Education and independent of local authority control. The terms of the arrangements are set out in individual Academy Funding Agreements. Most academies are secondary schools, though slightly more than 25% of primary schools (4,363 as of December 2017) are academies. Academies are self-governing non-profit charitable trusts and may receive additional support from personal or corporate sponsors, either financially or in kind. Karl Turner (British Politician)
Karl William Turner (born 15 April 1971) is a British politician. A member of the Labour Party, Turner has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Kingston upon Hull East since 2010. Turner was appointed Shadow Attorney General for England and Wales in January 2016 by Jeremy Corbyn, before resigning from that role in June of that year. He served as Shadow Shipping, Aviation and Road Safety Minister within the Shadow Transport team from 2017 to 2020. Joe Cator (born 15 June 1998) is a professional rugby league footballer who plays as a loose forward for Hull F.C. in the Betfred Super League. He played for Hull Kingston Rovers in the Championship and the Super League, and on loan from Hull KR at the Coventry Bears and the Newcastle Thunder in Betfred League 1. Sheffield Eagles
The Sheffield Eagles are a professional rugby league club that play in the Championship (rugby league), Betfred Championship. The club play their home games at the Olympic Legacy Park (OLP) on the former site of Don Valley Stadium, their former ground. The original club was formed in 1984 and formerly competed in the Super League. The new, current club was formed in 2000 following a merger of the old club with Huddersfield Giants.
