Wing Sing Street
Wing Sing Street (), commonly known as Egg Street (), was a street in Sheung Wan, Hong Kong. The narrow street was well known for its egg market, dating back to early Chinese settlement of Victoria City on Hong Kong Island. The market was erased from the map by Land Development Corporation for the re-development of the area bounded by Wing Lok Street, Man Wa Lane, Bonham Strand, Queen's Road Central and Wing Wo Street. The bounded area now contains the Cosco Tower and Grand Millennium Plaza. Sheung Wan
Sheung Wan is an area in Hong Kong, located in the north-west of Hong Kong Island, between Central and Sai Ying Pun. Administratively, it is part of the Central and Western District. The name can be variously interpreted as ''Upper District'' (occupying relatively high ground compared to Central and Wan Chai), or ''Gateway District'' (perhaps a reference to the location where the British first entered and occupied Hong Kong). History Sheung Wan was one of the earliest settled places by the British, and belonged to the historical Victoria City. The site of the original occupation of Hong Kong Island by British forces in 1842 was at Possession Street, between Queen's Road Central and Hollywood Road. A plaque to this effect can be found in Hollywood Road Park at the top of Possession Street. Victoria, Hong Kong
The City of Victoria, often called Victoria City or simply Victoria, was the ''de facto'' capital of Hong Kong during its time as a British dependent territory. It was initially named Queenstown but was soon known as Victoria. It was one of the first urban settlements in Hong Kong and its boundaries are recorded in the Laws of Hong Kong. Land Development Corporation
The Urban Renewal Authority (URA) is a quasi-governmental, profit-making statutory body in Hong Kong responsible for accelerating urban redevelopment. History The authority's predecessor, the Land Development Corporation (土地發展公司, or 土發 for short), was founded in 1988. The new Urban Renewal Authority was founded in 1999 with the aim of speeding up urban renewal. Difficulties reaching agreement on compensation packages for people affected by planned redevelopments delayed the actual commencement of the URA. Man Wa Lane
Man Wa Lane ( Chinese: 文華里), also commonly known as Chop Alley (圖章街), is a lane in Sheung Wan, Hong Kong, spanning from Bonham Strand to Connaught Road Central, across Wing Lok Street and Des Voeux Road Central. Bonham Strand
Bonham Strand (Chinese: 文咸街) is a combination of two streets in Sheung Wan, Hong Kong: Bonham Strand (文咸東街) and Bonham Strand West (文咸西街). As the name suggests, it was a strand and close to shore in the past though currently far from the seafront after several reclamations over history. This street renders the early shore line after 1842. The streets are named after Sir George Bonham, the third Governor of Hong Kong (1848–1854), who led the reconstruction effort of Sheung Wan after a fire destroyed part of it in 1851. This was the government's first large-scale reclamation and road construction project. Queen's Road is a collection of roads along the northern coast of Hong Kong Island, in Hong Kong, within the limit of Victoria, Hong Kong, Victoria City. It was the first road in Hong Kong, constructed History of Hong Kong (1800s–1930s), by the British between 1841 and 1843, spanning across Victoria City from Shek Tong Tsui to Wan Chai. The Cosco Tower () is an office tower in the Grand Millennium Plaza in western Hong Kong Island in Hong Kong. The tower has a total structural height of 228 m (748 ft).
