Arthur Winfree
Arthur Taylor Winfree (May 15, 1942 – November 5, 2002) was a theoretical biologist at the University of Arizona. He was born in St. Petersburg, Florida, United States. Winfree was noted for his work on the mathematical modeling of biological phenomena (see Complexity and Singularity (system theory)): from cardiac arrhythmia and circadian rhythms to the self-organization of slime mold colonies and the Belousov–Zhabotinsky reaction. Winfree was a MacArthur Fellow from 1984 to 1989, he won the Einthoven Prize for his work on ventricular fibrillation, and shared the 2000 Norbert Wiener Prize in Applied Mathematics with Alexandre Chorin. He was the father of Erik Winfree, another MacArthur Fellow and currently a professor at the California Institute of Technology, and Rachael Winfree, currently a professor in the Department of Ecology, Evolution and Natural Resources at Rutgers University. Daniel Winfree
Daniel Edward Winfree (born February 1953) is an American lawyer who served as chief justice of the Alaska Supreme Court from 2021 to 2023. He was appointed to the Alaska Supreme Court by Governor Sarah Palin in 2008. He was sworn in on February 13, 2008. Erik Winfree
Erik Winfree (born September 26, 1969) is an American applied computer scientist, bioengineer, and professor at California Institute of Technology. He is a leading researcher into DNA computing and DNA nanotechnology. In 1998, Winfree in collaboration with Nadrian Seeman published the creation of two-dimensional lattices of DNA tiles using the "double crossover" motif. These tile-based structures provided the capability to implement DNA computing, which was demonstrated by Winfree and Paul Rothemund in 2004, and for which they shared the 2006 Feynman Prize in Nanotechnology. In 1999, he was named to the MIT Technology Review TR100 as one of the top 100 innovators in the world under the age of 35. Juwann Winfree (born September 4, 1996) is an American football wide receiver who is a free agent. He played college football at Colorado, and was drafted by the Denver Broncos in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. College career Winfree first began his college career at the University of Maryland, where as a freshman, he finished the 2014 season with 158 receiving yards on 6 receptions. He was dismissed from the team due to an undisclosed code of conduct violation. He admitted to Coffeyville Community College for the 2015 season. Kenny Winfree (1954 - 2021) is an American folk singer and songwriter. He is best known for his labor classic, “I’m A Union Card.” Joe Glazer called Winfree, “this generation’s Woody Guthrie” and wrote “I felt like Kenny had Woody’s knack for writing catchy, moving songs with a message. His songs are easy to remember.” Winfree started out working as a textile worker at the Lebanon Woolen Mill in his hometown of Lebanon, Tennessee. His father worked at the same mill for 45 years, and his mother and several uncles had worked there as well.
