Windy Arbour Luas Stop
Windy Arbour ( ga, Na Glasáin) is a stop on the Luas light-rail tram system in Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown, south of Dublin, Ireland. It opened in 2004 as a stop on the Green Line from St Stephen's Green station to Sandyford. It serves the suburbs of Windy Arbour, Churchtown, and Clonskeagh. Location and access The Green Line runs on mostly segregated track, making use of a disused railway alignment. The Cowper stop is located between Churchtown Road Lower and St. Columbanus' Road. The stop has the signs, displays, shelters, and ticket machines common to all Luas stops. It has entrances from each of the neighbouring roads. The Churchtown Road entrance consists of a layby which can be used by cars and buses to drop off Luas passengers. The St. Columbanus' Road entrance is a paved plaza leading from a bend in the road to the northern end of the platforms. Green Line (Luas)
The Green Line () is one of the two lines of Dublin's Luas light rail system. The Green Line was formerly entirely in the south side of Dublin city. It mostly follows the route of the old Harcourt Street railway line, which was reserved for possible re-use when it closed in 1958. The Green Line allows for passenger transfers at O’ Connell GPO and Marlborough to Luas Red Line services and also allows commuters to use Broombridge as an interchange station to reach outer suburbs such as Castleknock and Ongar. Luas
Luas (pronounced ; Irish for "speed") is a tram/ light rail system in Dublin, Ireland. There are two main lines: the Green Line, which began operating on 30 June 2004, and the Red Line which opened on 26 September 2004. Since then, both lines have been extended and split into different branches further out of the city. The two lines, as of 2017, now intersect and connect within Dublin city centre. The system now has 67 stations and of revenue track, which in 2018 carried 41.8 million passengers, an increase of 11.2% compared to 2017. Luas is operated by Transdev, under tender from Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII). St Stephen's Green Station
St Stephen's Green is a stop on the Green Line of the Luas (tram) system in Dublin, Ireland. Originally opened in 2004, it was further developed as part of the Luas Cross City project between 2013 and 2017. Luas Green line From the opening of the Luas Green Line in 2004 until December 2017, St Stephen's Green served as the northern terminus of the line to Sandyford and later Cherrywood, with a stop located on the western side of St Stephen's Green. Trams approach the stop from the south, after coming up Harcourt Street. Immediately before the stop is a double crossover point which was used for terminating trams, but is now rarely used. Sandyford Luas Stop
Sandyford ( ga, Áth an Ghainimh) is a stop on the Luas light rail tram system in Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown, south of Dublin, Ireland which serves the nearby suburb of Sandyford. It opened in 2004 as the southern terminus of the Green Line, which re-uses the alignment of the Harcourt Street railway line which closed in 1958. Sandyford Luas stop is located on the same site as a station on the old line called Stillorgan. History Railway station (1854–1958) The Harcourt Street railway line was and opened by the Dublin and Wicklow Railway in 1854, running from a temporary terminus at Harcourt Road near the city centre to Bray with Stillorgan was originally one of four intermediate stops on the line. Windy Arbour
Windy Arbour () is a small suburban village in the Dundrum area of Dublin, Ireland. Situated between Dundrum and Milltown, along the banks of the Slang River (also Dundrum or Slann River). History The name of the area was originally Irish ''Na Glasáin'', "the green land"; this was Anglicised as 'Glassons'. The name ''Windy Harbour'' or ''Sandy Arbour'' was later applied, referring to a landing-point on the River Slang. A starch mill was formerly located there. "Arbour" once had the meaning “grass plot, lawn, garden”; it is possible that the name was intended as a direct translation of ''glasáin''. Churchtown, Dublin
Churchtown () is a largely residential suburb on the southside of Dublin, between Rathfarnham and Dundrum. Landmarks Ely's Arch Braemor Road is still marked by a triumphal arch from the 18th century, which originally led to Rathfarnham Castle. The erection of this gateway is attributed to Henry Loftus, Earl of Ely from 1769 to 1783 who was also responsible for the classical work on the castle itself. The arch is named the new gate on Frizell's map of 1779. After the division of the estate in 1913, the arch became the entrance to the Castle Golf Club but was later abandoned in favour of the more direct Woodside Drive entrance.
