Windsorton
Windsorton is an agricultural town situated in the Vaalharts Irrigation Scheme on the banks of the Vaal River in the Northern Cape province of South Africa. The village is located on the Vaal River, 55 km north of Kimberley, 35 km northeast of Barkly West and 40 km south-west of Warrenton. It was founded in 1869 as a diamond-diggers’ camp and was administered by a village management board. Delportshoop is a town in Frances Baard District Municipality in the Northern Cape Province of South Africa. It lies next to the Vaal River. The Harts River runs by closely. Early settlement It developed from a diamond-diggers’ camp. The public diggings were proclaimed in November 1871, a village management board was instituted in 1931, and municipal status attained in 1970. Name Delportshoop was originally called “Thomas Hope”, but later the name was changed to “Delport’s Hope” . The first Prosecutor was P.J. Marais. He farmed on Langberg in the region. Warrenton is an agricultural town of approximately 22,588 people in the Northern Cape province of South Africa, situated north of Kimberley on the Vaal River. History In 1880, a syndicate bought the western portion of the farm ''Grasbult'' to irrigate the fertile land and produce vegetables for the diamond fields. Barkly West
Barkly West is a town in the Northern Cape province of South Africa, situated on the north bank of the Vaal River west of Kimberley, Northern Cape, Kimberley. Establishment and naming Barkly West was the site of the first major diamond rush, in 1870, on the South African Diamond Fields, and was initially known as ''Klip Drift'' (sometimes written as Klipdrift). The Vaalharts Irrigation Scheme is one of the largest irrigation schemes in the world covering 369.50 square kilometres in the Northern Cape Province of South Africa. It is named after the Vaal River and the Harts River, the Vaal River being its major tributary. Water from a diversion weir in the Vaal River, near Warrenton, flows through a 1,176 km long network of canals. This system provides irrigation water to a total of 39,820ha scheduled land, industrial water to six towns and other industrial water users. This farmland is divided into individual blocks which each have their own letter, or letter group for identification. Boshof is a farming town in the west of the Free State province, South Africa. The town is 55 km north-east of Kimberley on the R64 road. Established in March 1856 on the farm Vanwyksvlei, which had been named after a Griqua who sowed his crops on it from time to time. Hertzogville is a small cattle and sheep farming town in the Free State province of South Africa. It is named after South Africa's longest-serving prime minister, James Barry Munnik Hertzog. Jan Kempdorp is an agricultural town situated in the centre of the Vaalharts Irrigation Scheme in the Northern Cape province of South Africa. It is situated north of Kimberley, the provincial capital, and west of Christiana in North West province. History Jan Kempdorp was laid out on the farm Andalusia and at first bore that name. During the Second World War it was the site of a concentration camp housing German men regarded as potentially dangerous by the authorities.
