Windsor Royal Railway Station
Windsor Royal was a proposed railway station in Windsor and part of the Windsor Link Railway, which would have seen Windsor & Eton Riverside and Windsor & Eton Central, replaced by one station which would link to Heathrow Terminal 5. Plans In June 2013, the company announced that Network Rail had given the green light to go ahead to the next phase of development and seek private investment. On 11 December 2013, the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead received 1,423 signatures in support of the project. This resulted in the project being discussed at full council on 25 February 2014. A unanimous motion was passed in support of the project, noting the petition, encouraging WLR to engage in the planning process and looking forward to further submissions. Windsor, Berkshire
Windsor is a historic market town and unparished area in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead in Berkshire, England. It is the site of Windsor Castle, one of the official residences of the British monarch. The town is situated west of Charing Cross, central London, southeast of Maidenhead, and east of the county town of Reading. It is immediately south of the River Thames, which forms its boundary with its smaller, ancient twin town of Eton. Windsor Link Railway
The Windsor Link Railway was a proposed new railway in Windsor, Berkshire, connecting the Great Western and South Western franchise areas and linking both to London Heathrow Airport. George Bathurst originally proposed the plan in 2009 as part of David Cameron's "Big Society" initiative with the aim of improving rail services to Windsor which is served by two railway stations and appears as a very narrow gap in the sub-region. Originally the cost estimate was £125 million at the most which included contingency. In 2013, after 4 years, the project was promoted by Windsor Link Railway Limited (WLR), led by businessman George Bathurst. The promoter's aim is for the railway to be entirely privately initiated and financed. The enhanced plan's cost was then estimated at £200 million. Windsor & Eton Riverside Railway Station
Windsor & Eton Riverside station is a station in Windsor, Berkshire, England. The station, close to the River Thames and Windsor Castle, is a Grade II listed building. It is down the line from and is the terminus of the Staines to Windsor Line, served by South Western Railway. The station is also in close proximity to Windsor's other station, , which is served by Great Western Railway trains from on the Windsor branch of the Great Western Main Line. Description The station building was designed by William Tite as a royal station with a stone-faced frontage with a mullioned and transomed main window, gables and a multi-arch entrance. The main booking hall was decorative but is now a wine bar. There is a spacious concourse under the train shed at the head of the platforms. Windsor & Eton Central station is one of two terminal stations serving the town of Windsor, Berkshire, England. Although a small part is still a railway station, most of the station building has been converted into a tourist-oriented shopping centre, called Windsor Royal Shopping. It is situated on the High Street, almost immediately opposite Castle Hill, the main public entrance to Windsor Castle.
