Wind-up Entertainment was an American independent record label founded by Alan and Diana Meltzer in 1997. It was based in New York City and was distributed by BMG Distribution. Wind-up's best-selling artists worldwide were Creed and Evanescence. History Wind-up Records was formed in 1997 by Alan Meltzer, former owner of CD One Stop, and his wife Diana Meltzer, following their 1996 purchase of Grass Records. The parent company Wind-up Entertainment also runs numerous publishing companies as well as a full-scale retail, online and tour merchandising company. The company's slogan was "Developing Career Artists". Some of the successful acts on the label included Evanescence, Creed, Seether and Finger Eleven. The label has also re-released albums from bands previously associated with Grass Records, such as Toadies, the Wrens and Commander Venus. The Wrens
The Wrens were an American indie rock band from New Jersey. The group consisted of Charles Bissell (guitar/vocals), brothers Greg Whelan (guitar/vocals) and Kevin Whelan (bass/vocals), and Jerry MacDonald (drums). They released three albums; a fourth album was recorded and mastered for a planned 2013 release, but was subsequently retracted. After reworking his contributions, Bissell teased a 2021 release for the new album, but the band broke up shortly after following disagreements over business arrangements. The band had a reputation for their intense live shows – following a gig at the University of London Union in London in March 2006, ''The Guardian'' declared that "on this form the Wrens are surely one of the best live bands in the world". Genevieve (musician)
Genevieve Schatz (born April 1, 1987), better known simply as Genevieve, is an American indie pop singer and songwriter from Elgin, Illinois, United States. Schatz is the frontwoman of Chicago indie rock band Company of Thieves and embarked on her solo career as Genevieve in early 2014. Her first solo track, "Show Your Colors", premiered on Vice Noisey in December 2014. Her debut EP ''Show Your Colors'' was released on March 10, 2015, via Wind-up Records. Speak (stylized SPEAK) was a synth-pop band from Austin, Texas formed in 2008. The band consisted of Troupe Gammage (keyboard and lead vocals), Nick Hurt (guitar and vocals), Joey Delahoussaye (bass and vocals), and Jake Stewart (drums). The band released their debut single ''Carrie'' in 2011, and their debut album I Believe In Everything in late 2011. The band dissolved sometime during or after 2016, with their last song being "One House Town", a collaboration with RAC. Filter (band)
Filter is an American rock band formed in 1993 in Cleveland, Ohio, by singer Richard Patrick and guitarist and programmer Brian Liesegang. The band was formed when Patrick desired to start his own band after leaving Nine Inch Nails as their touring guitarist. Their debut album '' Short Bus'' was released in 1995 and ended up going platinum, largely due to the success of the single " Hey Man Nice Shot". After the album, the band would go through the first of many lineup changes, leaving Patrick as the only consistent member across all releases. After Liesegang's departure in 1997, Patrick recorded a follow up album with the ''Short Bus'' touring band members, who became full-time members thereafter. Crobot
Crobot is an American hard rock band from Pottsville, Pennsylvania composed of Brandon Yeagley, Chris Bishop, Dan Ryan and Tim Peugh. Beginnings In the mid-2011, Brandon Yeagley and Chris Bishop created Crobot, joined later by brothers Paul and Jake Figueroa, who previously performed similar styles of music in another band. In 2012 the band's original lineup self-released their debut EP, ''The Legend of the Spaceborne Killer'', along with a music video for the eponymous first single. Later that year, the rhythm section of the band was revamped with the addition of the Figueroa brothers on bass and drums. Five For Fighting
Vladimir John Ondrasik III (born January 7, 1965), also known by his stage name Five for Fighting, is an American singer-songwriter and pianist. He is best known for his piano-based soft rock ballads, such as the top 40 hits " Superman (It's Not Easy)" (2001), "100 Years" (2003) " The Riddle" (2006). He also had a string of moderate hits on the adult contemporary charts in the late 2000s and into the 2010s, including "World" (2006) and "Chances" (2009). The Revivalists are an American rock band formed in New Orleans, Louisiana, in 2007. The Virginmarys are an English rock duo from Macclesfield, England. The band formed in 2009 as a trio and self-released a limited series of sold out EPs, before releasing their debut album '' King of Conflict'' on DoubleCross/Cooking Vinyl and Wind Up Records (US) in February 2013. The Griswolds
The Griswolds are an Australian two-piece indie rock band from Sydney, Australia. The band have cited influences such as Vampire Weekend, MGMT, Kanye West, Devendra Banhart, Of Montreal, and the Beach Boys. The Griswolds signed with Wind-up Records in May 2013 and began recording their debut album shortly after with producer Tony Hoffer.
