Wind River (Washington)
The Wind River is a tributary of the Columbia River, in the U.S. state of Washington. Its entire course of lies within Skamania County. Crusattes River is an old variant name. When Lewis and Clark passed by the river in October 29, 1805, they called it the ‘New Timbered River’ after the Oregon Ash trees in the area. Course The Wind River originates in the Cascade Range, south of Mount Adams and Mount St. Helens. It flows generally south through Gifford Pinchot National Forest, joining the Columbia River near Carson, in the Columbia River Gorge. Fraxinus Latifolia
''Fraxinus latifolia'', the Oregon ash, is a member of the ash genus '' Fraxinus'', native to western North America. Description ''Fraxinus latifolia'' is a medium-sized deciduous tree that can grow to heights of in height, with a trunk diameter of in its 100−150-year average life span. Oregon ash can grow considerably larger and can have well over a 200-year life span, or become stunted and very small in more dry habitats. It can develop a broad crown, almost as wide as a bigleaf maple (''Acer macrophyllum'') when it grows in the open, but crowns remain narrow when they are part of a denser tree stand, similar to that of red alder (''Alnus rubra''). The bark is distinctive with dark gray–brown, and it will eventually develop a woven pattern of deep fissures and ridges. Columbia River Gorge
The Columbia River Gorge is a canyon of the Columbia River in the Pacific Northwest of the United States. Up to deep, the canyon stretches for over as the river winds westward through the Cascade Range, forming the boundary between the state of Washington to the north and Oregon to the south. Mount Adams (Washington)
Mount Adams, known by some Native American tribes as Pahto or Klickitat, is a potentially active stratovolcano in the Cascade Range. Although Adams has not erupted in more than 1,000 years, it is not considered extinct. It is the second-highest mountain in Washington, after Mount Rainier. Adams, named for President John Adams, is a member of the Cascade Volcanic Arc, and is one of the arc's largest volcanoes, located in a remote wilderness approximately east of Mount St. Helens. The Mount Adams Wilderness consists of the upper and western part of the volcano's cone. The eastern side of the mountain is designated as part of the territory of the Yakama Nation. The Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) is a database of name and locative information about more than two million physical and cultural features throughout the United States and its territories, Antarctica, and the associated states of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, and Palau. Skamania County () is a county located in the U.S. state of Washington. As of the 2020 census, the population was 12,036.
