Nether Winchendon
Nether Winchendon or Lower Winchendon is a village and civil parish in the Aylesbury Vale district of Buckinghamshire, England. It is near the county boundary with Oxfordshire, about west of Aylesbury and north of Haddenham. The toponym "Winchendon" is derived from the Old English for "hill at a bend". The Domesday Book of 1086 records Winchendon as ''Wincandone''. Nether Winchendon House Nether Winchendon House, a manor house in Nether Winchendon, built on the site of an Augustinian priory that was a daughter house of Notley Abbey in Long Crendon. Jasper Tudor, Duke of Bedford bought and largely remodelled the priory. The house and gardens are now open to the public and the house is noted for its interior. Upper Winchendon
Upper Winchendon or Over Winchendon is a village and civil parish in the Aylesbury Vale District of Buckinghamshire, England. It is about south of Waddesdon and west of Aylesbury. A mid-air collision on 17 November 2017 between a plane and a helicopter just outside the village was referred to by much of the press as the "Waddesdon Manor air incident". Name The name "Winchendon" is derived from the Old English for "hill at a bend". Collectively the villages of Upper Winchendon and Nether Winchendon (or Lower Winchendon) were called ''Wichendone''. Manor The manor of Upper Winchendon was held by St Frideswide's Priory in Oxford, to whom it was given by King Henry I. After the suppression of the convent in the Dissolution of the Monasteries the manor was given to Cardinal Wolsey, but was seized by the Crown shortly afterwards, in 1530, along with Wolsey's other estates. Winchendon is a town in Worcester County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 10,364 at the 2020 census. The town includes the villages of Waterville and Winchendon Springs (also known as Spring Village). A census-designated place, also named Winchendon, is defined within the town for statistical purposes. Geography Winchendon is located at (42.684161, -72.046811). According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 6.3 km (2.5 mi), of which 5.9 km (2.3 mi) is land and 0.4 km (0.2 mi) (6.94%) is water. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there were 4,246 people, 1,637 households, and 1,039 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 719.0/km (1,863.9/mi).
