Wimpy Winther
Richard Lew "Wimpy" Winther (born October 22, 1947) is a former Center (American football), center in the National Football League (NFL). He was drafted in the fourth round of the 1971 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints and played that season with the Green Bay Packers. The following season, he would play with the Saints. Richard, nicknamed Wimpy, is married to Sandra Winther. He is the father of three children: Matthew (married to Tracey Winther and fathers Zach and Josh), Ashley, and Abby. After his professional football career ended, Wimpy spent a short period of time in banking. Afterwards, he began teaching and coaching at Shelby County High School (Alabama), Shelby County High School in Shelby County, Alabama. Later on, he transferred to Rudd Middle School in Pinson, Alabama, where he taught health and education and coached various sports including football, wrestling, baseball and basketball. Alabama Vulcans
The Alabama Vulcans were a Professional football (gridiron), professional football team which were a part of the American Football Association (1977), American Football Association in 1979. Though the Vulcans used a different color scheme than its predecessors did in the World Football League, the team's name was borrowed from the WFL's Birmingham Vulcans, and its logo was an amalgamation of those of the Vulcans and the Birmingham Americans to draw on the popularity of the previous league's teams. They were owned by Harry Lander, who also served as the team's head coach and the founder of the league. Their home stadium was Legion Field in Birmingham, Alabama. During the one season of the team's existence, it had a record of 13–6, with two five-game winning streaks. The team made the playoffs, but lost in the first round. Shelby County High School (Alabama)
Shelby County High School is a secondary school located in the city of Columbiana in the U.S. state of Alabama. It is a part of Shelby County Schools. Athletics Shelby County High School's athletic teams are known as the Wildcats, and their colors are cardinal and white. Football games are played at Charles "PaPa" McCombs Stadium. Shelby County High School was a charter member of the Alabama High School Athletic Association, and currently plays in Class 5A. The 1971 National Football League draft was held January 28–29, 1971, at the Belmont Plaza Hotel in New York City, New York. The Boston Patriots, who did not officially change their name to New England Patriots until after the draft, used the first overall pick of the draft to select quarterback Jim Plunkett. It was the first draft where the three first selections, Plunkett, Archie Manning, and Dan Pastorini, were quarterbacks. Center or Centre (C) is a position in gridiron football. The center is the innermost lineman of the offensive line on a football team's offense. The center is also the player who passes (or "snaps") the ball between his legs to the quarterback at the start of each play. The New Orleans Saints are a professional American football team based in New Orleans. The Saints compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member of the league's National Football Conference (NFC) South division.
