Wilsonton Heights is a residential locality of Toowoomba in the Toowoomba Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Wilsonton Heights had a population of 2,669 people. Geography Wilsonton Heights is located northwest of the Toowoomba central business district. The locality is mostly residential, and contains Wilsonton State High School. History The locality is named after James T. Wilson, a Toowoomba businessman. He was involved with the Toowoomba Agricultural Society and unsuccessfully contests the Queensland Legislative Assembly seat of Darling Downs in 1878. In 2006 the suburb of Wilsonton Heights was split from the suburb of Wilsonton. The Wilsonton campus of Toowoomba State High School opened in 1998 as the fourth secondary campus for Toowoomba's youth. Kate Jennifer Jones (born 10 April 1979) is an Australian former politician from Queensland. She served as a Labor Party Member of Parliament in the Legislative Assembly of Queensland from 2006 to 2012, and again from 2015 to 2020. Jones first represented the seat of Ashgrove until she was defeated by eventual Premier Campbell Newman at the 2012 state election. Jones retook the seat for the Labor Party at the 2015 state election. The seat was abolished prior to the 2017 state election, so Jones contested and won the new seat of Cooper at that election. Darling Downs was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland. It was named for the Darling Downs region. The district covered rural areas in southern Queensland to the immediate west and north of Toowoomba, not including the city itself. Darling Downs included the towns of Dalby, Oakey and Crows Nest. The electorate was first created for the 2001 election. In 2008, Darling Downs was abolished–with effect at the 2009 state election–following a redistribution undertaken by the Electoral Commission of Queensland. Its former territory and voters were divided between the districts of Warrego, Nanango, Toowoomba North and a new seat called Condamine.
