Willy Gretor
Willy Gretor, born Vilhelm Rudolf Julius Petersen (16 July 1868, in Wundlacken Castle, near Königsberg – 31 July 1923, in Copenhagen) was a Danish painter and art dealer, who spent most of his life in Germany and Paris. Life and work His father, Hans Christian Petersen, was a merchant from Flensburg. He had his first art lessons in Copenhagen, from and Bertha Wegmann, at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. In 1889, he went to Lübeck. There, he became acquainted with members of the "Ibsenklub" (named after the playwright, Henrik Ibsen); a group of liberal young people who met to exchange ideas, about modern literature that had an aura of "mystery and scandal". Based on his correspondence, this led to a brief affair with , who later became an archaeologist, and an equally brief engagement to one of her cousins. Flora (sculpture)
''Flora'' is a wax sculpture of Roman goddess Flora by English sculptor Richard Cockle Lucas, currently located in the Bode Museum in Berlin. Provenance Wilhelm von Bode, the general manager of the Prussian Art Collections for the Berlin Museum, spotted the bust in a London gallery and purchased it for a few pounds for the Kaiser Friedrich Museum in 1909. Bode was convinced that the bust was by Leonardo da Vinci and the Berlin Museum authorities, and the German public, were delighted to have "snatched a great art treasure from under the very noses" of the British art world. In 1910, it was revealed that the work may have actually been created by the English sculptor, Richard Cockle Lucas. Frank Wedekind
Benjamin Franklin Wedekind (July 24, 1864 – March 9, 1918) was a German playwright. His work, which often criticizes bourgeois attitudes (particularly towards sex), is considered to anticipate expressionism and was influential in the development of epic theatre.See Banham (1998) and Willett (1959). In his ''Messingkauf Dialogues'', Brecht cites Wedekind, along with Büchner and Valentin, as his "chief influences" in his early years: "he", Brecht writes of himself in the third person, "also saw the writer ''Wedekind'' performing his own works in a style which he had developed in cabaret. Bode Museum
The Bode-Museum (English: ''Bode Museum''), formerly called the Kaiser-Friedrich-Museum (''Emperor Frederick Museum''), is a listed building on the Museum Island in the historic centre of Berlin. It was built from 1898 to 1904 by order of German Emperor William II according to plans by Ernst von Ihne in Baroque Revival style. The building's front square featured a memorial to German Emperor Frederick III, which was destroyed by the East German authorities. Maria Slavona
Maria Slavona, born Marie Dorette Caroline Schorer (14 March 1865, Lübeck - 10 May 1931, Berlin) was a German impressionist painter. Life Her father, , was a pharmacist and politician who was known for his campaign to improve the quality of Lübeck's drinking water. Her oldest sister, Cornelia Schorer, became one of the first female doctors in Germany. At the age of seventeen, after some informal lessons in painting and drawing, she went to Berlin to study at a private art school before moving on to the teaching institute at the Museum of Decorative Arts, which she attended until 1886. The following year, she began studies at the Verein der Berliner Künstlerinnen, an art school for women, where they were allowed to study anatomy and draw from live models.
