Friendship Heights is an urban commercial and residential neighborhood in northwest Washington, D.C. and southern Montgomery County, Maryland. Though its borders are not clearly defined, Friendship Heights consists roughly of the neighborhoods and commercial areas around Wisconsin Avenue north of Fessenden Street NW and Tenleytown to Somerset Terrace and Willard Avenue in Maryland, and from River Road in the west to Reno Road and 41st Street in the east. Within Maryland west of Wisconsin Avenue is the Village of Friendship Heights, technically a special taxation district. The portion in the District of Columbia lies in Ward 3, represented by ANCs 3E03 and 3E04. Willoughby Condominium
The Willoughby of Chevy Chase is a high-rise condominium building in Montgomery County, Maryland, on the outskirts of Washington, D.C. When it opened in 1969, it was the largest residential building in the DC area. It was designed by modernist architect Vlastimil Koubek for Washington developer Milton A. Barlow. But Barlow's firm ran out of funds, and the project's financier, Riggs National Bank, took over. The building opened in 1969 as the Willoughby Apartments, whose units were luxury rental apartments. The building changed ownership several times and, ultimately, was sold to First Condominium Development Company of Chicago, specialists in condominium conversions. Apartment sales and control of the condominium were turned over to unit owners in 1982. There are 815 units including efficiencies, one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments, commercial office space, a convenience store, 701 parking garage spaces, and a restaurant. Friendship Heights is a Washington Metro station straddling the border of Washington, D.C. and Montgomery County, Maryland, United States. The station was opened on August 25, 1984, and is operated by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA). Location Providing service for the Red Line, the station is at the 5400 block of Wisconsin Avenue, Northwest and serves the neighborhoods of Chevy Chase and Friendship Heights. Steven Weitzman (born 1952) is an American public artist and designer known for his figurative sculptures, murals, and aesthetic designs for highway and bridge infrastructure projects. Weitzman owns and operates three companies.
