Willmore, Long Beach, California
Willmore is a neighborhood in Long Beach, California. It is adjacent to Downtown Long Beach. History The neighborhood is named after a forerunner of Long Beach, Willmore City. The township was developed by William E. Willmore on 4000 acres leased from Jotham Bixby and Rancho Los Cerritos in 1881. In 1884, the Rancho reclaimed the land for non-payment and resold the area to the Long Beach Land and Water Company. Drake Park is named for Col. Charles Rivers Drake, who donated the park's land in 1904. Drake developed the precursor of The Pike amusement zone, and established the Virginia Country Club. The Willmore City Heritage Association was founded in 1976. Downtown Long Beach
Downtown Long Beach is the heart of Long Beach, California, United States, and is the location for most of the city's major tourist attractions and municipal services. It is also the location for numerous businesses. There are many hotels and restaurants in the area that serve locals, tourists, and convention visitors. Bixby Family
The Bixby family is an American family that was heavily involved in the development of California ranches and real estate in the 19th and 20th centuries. Through various companies, they controlled at one time or another large swathes of California real estate, much of it derived from Mexican land grants. Bembridge House, also known as Green-Rankin-Bembridge House, is a registered historic building located across from Drake Park in the Willmore neighborhood of Long Beach, California.
