Willits, California
Willits (formerly Little Lake and Willitsville) is a city in Mendocino County, California, United States. It is located about north-northwest of Ukiah, at an elevation of . The population was 4,988 at the 2020 census. Willits is at the center of Mendocino County and at the beginning of the county's extensive redwood forests as approached by Highway 101 from the south. The Pomo tribe lived in the area before the settlers came, and the Sherwood Valley Rancheria of Pomo Indians of California is headquartered just west of Willits. An arch stands in the center of Willits featuring the slogans "Gateway to the Redwoods" and "Heart of Mendocino County". The arch is the repurposed second version of the Reno Arch. Earl Willits
Earl M. Willits (October 30, 1946 – July 11, 1990) was an American politician who served in the Iowa House of Representatives from the 57th district from 1971 to 1973 and in the Iowa Senate from the 31st district from 1973 to 1979. Willits graduated from Union-Whitten High School, earned an undergraduate degree from Iowa State University in 1968 and was honored with the Cardinal's Key for academic excellence. He received a Juris Doctor degree from Drake University Law School in 1974. In 1979, he resigned from the Senate to work in the Attorney General Office. He eventually functioned as First Assistant Attorney General. Earl married Martha Oldson of Eagle Grove in 1969 and they were the parents of two daughters, Anne and Emily of Des Moines. Scott Willits
Scott Allison Willits (March 26, 1895 – October 1973) was an American violin teacher with the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago, Illinois, who coached many members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra from 1940 through 1973. He was a student and "first American Representative" of Otakar Ševčík who created a leading pedagogical method for teaching violin that is still widely used today. On November 21, 1917, Willits married Elizabeth Blanch Britton who was the sister of Nan Britton and aunt of Elizabeth Ann Blaesing, the illegitimate daughter of Warren G. Harding, the 29th President of the United States. In 1921, Willits and his wife adopted Blaesing. At that time the Willitses were living in Athens, Ohio, and were both teaching music at Ohio University. They raised Elizabeth Ann until her mother once again took custody five years later. Reggie Willits
Reggie Gene Willits (born May 30, 1981) is an American former professional baseball outfielder and associate head baseball coach for the Oklahoma Sooners. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim from 2006 through 2011, and was the first base coach for the New York Yankees from 2018 through 2021. Ryan Willits (born 23 January 1987 in Melbourne, Victoria) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the Port Adelaide Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He also played for the Glenelg Football Club and West Adelaide Football Club in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL). Emma Willits
Emma K. Willits (20 September 1869 – 9 April 1965) was a physician and surgeon who played an important role in the development of Children's Hospital in San Francisco (now the California campus omen and Children's Centerof the California Pacific Medical Center), serving as the head of the Department of General Surgery from 1921 to 1934. She is believed to be the third woman to specialize in surgery in the United States, and the first to head a surgery department. Edwin Willits (also Willets) (April 24, 1830 – October 22, 1896) was a politician from the U.S. state of Michigan. Willits served as prosecuting attorney of Monroe County, Republican from Michigan's 2nd congressional district for the 45th, 46th, and 47th Congresses. Presidents of Michigan State Normal School (now Eastern Michigan University) and the State Agricultural College (now Michigan State University). Christopher Willits (born April 8, 1978) is a San Francisco-based guitarist, electronic music composer and producer, visual artist and scholar. His music is electroacoustic in nature, in that both analogue and digital sounds are meshed into one singular sound. Willits Depot
Willits Depot is a historic train station in Willits, California. It is served by California Western Railroad, the ''Skunk Train'' excursion line to Ft. Bragg, California, Ft. Bragg. History The Northwestern Pacific Railroad reached Willits by 1901, and passenger service to the original station began in 1902. That station was demolished in 1915 and rebuilt in its current location; a parking lot sits on the site of the original. Adam Charles Willits (born 18 February 1972) is an Australians, Australian former actor, best known for being an original cast member of the television soap opera ''Home and Away'' as foster child Steven Matheson from 1988 to 1991.
