Willie Wood
William Vernell Wood Sr. (December 23, 1936February 3, 2020) was an American professional football player and coach. He played as a safety with the Green Bay Packers in the National Football League (NFL). Wood was an eight-time Pro Bowler and a nine-time All-Pro. In 1989, Wood was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Wood played college football for the USC Trojans, becoming the first African-American quarterback to play in what is now the Pac-12 Conference. Undrafted out of USC, he was granted a try-out with Green Bay. Wood changed his position to safety in his rookie year, and played for the Packers from 1960 to 1971, winning five NFL championships. He later coached in the NFL, World Football League (WFL), and Canadian Football League (CFL). William Walker Wood MBE (born 26 April 1938 in Haddington, East Lothian) is a former Scottish professional bowls player, who has mainly competed in the outdoor or lawn form of the game. He is regarded as one of the leading bowlers of his generation and his list of achievements include appearing at eight Commonwealth Games and winning two gold medals and eight World Bowls Championship gold medals. Early life Wood took up bowls at the age of 12, perhaps unsurprisingly as his father, grandfather and mother all played the sport. With little else to occupy his time, Wood says he elected to bowl in his home village of Gifford, rather than brave the bus journey to the swimming baths at nearby North Berwick. Wood undertook his national service with the British Army, joining aged 18, serving in Germany with the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. Willard West Wood Jr. (born October 1, 1960) is an American professional golfer who has played on the PGA Tour, Nationwide Tour, and PGA Tour Champions. Professional career Wood was born in Kingsville, Texas. He had an outstanding junior career, winning the 1977 U.S. Junior Amateur, the 1978 PGA Junior, and the 1979 Western Junior, and was named the 1978 AJGA Rolex Player of the Year. He attended Oklahoma State University–Stillwater, Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma and was a star member of the golf team, where he played alongside Bob Tway, Scott Verplank, and Tommy Moore (golfer), Tommy Moore. William Nicholas Wood (born 29 November 1996) is an English footballer who plays as a left back for Welling United. Early and personal life Wood grew up in Burgess Hill and attended Oakmeeds Community College. Career Wood joined Southampton at the age of 11, signing a three-year professional contract in April 2015. He trialled with Portsmouth in December 2017, and signed a one-year contract with Accrington Stanley in May 2018. He made his professional debut on 14 August 2018, in the EFL Cup. In October 2018 he moved on loan to Havant & Waterlooville. He was released by Accrington at the end of the 2018–19 season. He signed for Dagenham & Redbridge in June 2019, and stated that he was looking forward to playing for the club. Wood only made four appearances for the Daggers as the season was curtailed due to Covid-19 and he was subsequently released at the end of the campaign.
