Willie Mtolo
William Bhekizizwe Mtolo (born May 5, 1964) is a South African former long-distance runner who mainly competed in marathons. He is a former New York Marathon winner and two-time runner-up of the Comrades Marathon. He represented his country at the 1993 World Championships in Athletics, but failed to finish in the marathon. For the bulk of his early career, Mtolo was banned from competing internationally until 1992, due to the South Africa sports boycott associated with apartheid. He began to have success at national level in his early twenties. He won the Johannesburg-Pretoria 50K and the Durban Athletic Club Marathon in 1984 and won the latter title again four years later. He also demonstrated his abilities over the half marathon with wins at the Dick King Half Marathon in 1985 and 1990. Long-distance running, or endurance running, is a form of continuous running over distances of at least . Physiologically, it is largely Aerobic exercise, aerobic in nature and requires endurance, stamina as well as mental strength. Within endurance running comes two different types of respiration. The more prominent side that runners experience more frequently is aerobic respiration. This occurs when oxygen is present, and the body is able to utilize oxygen to help generate energy and muscle activity. On the other side, anaerobic respiration occurs when the body is deprived of oxygen, and this is common towards the final stretch of races when there is a drive to speed up to a greater intensity. Overall, both types of respiration are used by endurance runners quite often, but are very different from each other. The Macau International Marathon (; pt, Maratona Internacional de Macau) is an annual road running event held in the Special administrative regions of China, special administrative region of Macau adjacent to mainland China, since 1981. The Enschede Marathon is an annual marathon race held in the city of Enschede, Netherlands. The race is the distance of a typical marathon (42 km, 195 metres). It has been held annually since 1991, after being bi-annual for the previous 44 years. The race crosses the German border through the city of Gronau. There has been a women's competition since 1981.
