Willie Jones (American Football)
Willie Lorenzo Jones (born November 22, 1957) is a former American football defensive end in the National Football League. He was drafted by the Oakland Raiders in the second round of the 1979 NFL Draft. He played college football at Florida State. Jones was inducted into the Florida State Seminoles Hall of Fame in 1988. College career Jones played college football at Florida State University from 1975 to 1978. During his career he recorded 20 sacks and was an All-American as a senior. He was the defensive MVP of the 1977 Tangerine Bowl and MVP of the 1979 Senior Bowl. Professional career Jones was drafted by the Oakland Raiders in the second round of the 1979 NFL Draft. He played three years for the team from 1979 to 1981 and led the team in sacks as a rookie with 10. He was also a member of the Raiders Super Bowl XV victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. Willie Jones (statesman)
Willie Jones (pronounced Wiley Jones, May 25, 1741 – June 18, 1801) was an American planter and statesman from Halifax County, North Carolina. He represented North Carolina as a delegate to the Continental Congress in 1780. His brother Allen Jones was also a delegate to the congress. In 1774, 1775 and 1776, Jones was elected to represent either the county of Halifax or the town of Halifax in the North Carolina Provincial Congress. For a brief time in 1776, as the head of North Carolina's centralized ''Council of Safety,'' he was the head of the state's revolutionary government. Richard Caswell took over after being elected as governor. Thereafter, Jones was elected to the North Carolina House of Commons and the North Carolina Senate. He was elected to the United States Constitutional Convention in 1787 but declined to accept his seat. Willie Jones III (born June 8, 1968 in Los Angeles, California) is a jazz drummer. He has played, toured, and recorded with Horace Silver, Roy Hargrove, Hank Jones, Cedar Walton, and Herbie Hancock. He played on Arturo Sandoval's Grammy-winning album ''Hot House'' (1998). Early life Jones' father, also named Willie Jones, was a pianist, composer and arranger, who moved to Los Angeles from Jacksonville in 1961. By the time Jones was born, his father "was gigging locally and working as a vocal coach for entertainers, including Ann-Margret." Willie Jones III was born on June 8, 1968, in Los Angeles. Willie Edward Jones (August 16, 1925 – October 18, 1983), nicknamed "Puddin' Head", was a professional baseball third baseman who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Philadelphia Phillies (1947–1959), Cleveland Indians (1959), and Cincinnati Reds (1959–1961). He batted and threw right-handed. In a 15-season career, Jones was a .258 hitter with 190 home runs and 812 runs batted in (RBI) in 1,691 games played. Willie D. "Hutch" Jones (born September 1, 1959) is an American former professional basketball player. He played in the National Basketball Association for the San Diego Clippers for several games at the starts of both the 1982–83 NBA season, 1982–83 and 1983–84 NBA season, 1983–84 seasons before embarking on a seven-year career in Spain and Italy.
