Willie Barrett
Willie Barrett is an Irish people, Irish former hurling referee. A native of Ardfinnan in County Tipperary, he was one of the sport's top referees and officiated at several All-Ireland finals in minor, under-21 levels, and two senior All-Ireland Hurling Final, finals: in 1994 and 2000. His refereeing career spanned from 1976 until 2018 and he also served as chairman of the national referees development committee. John McDonnell (referee)
John Martin McDonnell (born 8 September 1951) is a British politician who served as Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer from 2015 to 2020. A member of the Labour Party, he has been Member of Parliament (MP) for Hayes and Harlington since 1997. McDonnell served as chair of the Socialist Campaign Group in Parliament and Labour Representation Committee; he also chaired the Public Services Not Private Profit Group. He is also parliamentary convenor of the Trade Union Co-ordinating Group of eight left-wing trade unions representing over half a million workers. McDonnell attempted to stand for the position of Labour Party leader following Tony Blair's resignation in 2007, but failed to get enough nominations. Dickie Murphy
Richard 'Dickie' Murphy (born 1961 in Enniscorthy, County Wexford) is an Irish hurling referee and former player. He played hurling with his local club Rapparees and with the Wexford senior inter-county team in the 1970s and 1980s. Murphy is regarded as one of the best and most popular referees on the inter-county scene. He is married to Jacquie Murphy (née Doyle) and has three sons Cathal, Brian and Ruairi. Playing career Club Murphy played his club hurling with his local Rapparees club in Enniscorthy. A talented player, he was a substitute on the team which won its only senior county title in 1978. During this time he was heavily involved in the burgeoning Ska and Two-Tone music scenes. The 2000 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship (also known as the Guinness Hurling Championship for sponsorship reasons) was the 114th staging of the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's premier inter-county hurling tournament. The draw for the 2000 fixtures took place on 14 November 1999. The championship began on 6 May 2000 and ended on 10 September 2000. Cork were the defending champions but were defeated by Offaly in the All-Ireland semi-final. Carlow, New York and Westmeath fielded teams after long absences. On 10 September 2000, Kilkenny won the championship following a 5-15 to 1-14 defeat of Offaly in the All-Ireland final. 1994 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship
The All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship of 1994 was the 108th staging of Ireland's premier hurling knock-out competition. Offaly won the championship, beating Limerick 3-16 to 2-13 in a sensational final at Croke Park, Dublin. Pre-championship Prior to the opening of the championship Kilkenny were installed as the favourites to retain the All-Ireland title for a third consecutive year. The last time they achieved this was in 1913, however, no final took place that year and Kilkenny were awarded the title as Limerick refused to play. Hurling
Hurling ( ga, iománaíocht, ') is an outdoor team game of ancient Gaelic Irish origin, played by men. One of Ireland's native Gaelic games, it shares a number of features with Gaelic football, such as the field and goals, the number of players and much terminology. The same game played by women is called camogie ('), which shares a common Gaelic root. The objective of the game is for players to use an ash wood stick called a hurley (in Irish a ', pronounced or ) to hit a small ball called a ' between the opponent's goalposts either over the crossbar for one point or under the crossbar into a net guarded by a goalkeeper for three points.
