Willibald Joseph MacDonald
Willibald Joseph MacDonald (January 27, 1897 – March 17, 1977) was an educator and political figure on Prince Edward Island. He served as the 19th Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island from August 1963 to October 1969. He was born in Souris West, the son of Archibald J. MacDonald. MacDonald was educated in Souris, at Prince of Wales College and at Saint Dunstan's University, later becoming a professor at Prince of Wales College. Prince Of Wales College
Prince of Wales College (PWC) is a former university college, which was located in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada. PWC merged with St. Dunstan's University in 1969 to form the University of Prince Edward Island. PWC traces its history to 1804 when land was set aside by Lieutenant-Governor Edmund Fanning for a college - the colony's first. In 1821 a district school called the National School opened on the site located on Kent Street in the east end of Charlottetown. In 1835 Central Academy opened on a site along Grafton Street, immediately south of the National School. The National School closed in the early 1850s and the provincial Normal School for training teachers opened on the site in 1856. In 1860 the Central Academy was upgraded and renamed Prince of Wales College (PWC) in honour of a visit to the colony that year by the Prince of Wales, later to become King Edward VII. St. Dunstan's University (SDU) is a former university which was located on the northern outskirts of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada. SDU merged with Prince of Wales College (PWC) in 1969 to form the University of Prince Edward Island. St. Dunstan's College was founded by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Charlottetown on January 15, 1855 as a seminary which trained young men for the Catholic clergy. The St. Andrew's College, founded in 1831, was its predecessor. By the mid-20th century, the college had expanded into a small liberal arts university. A post-Second World War enrollment boom mandated an expansion which saw new residences and teaching buildings constructed on the campus located along Charlottetown's Elm Avenue (the Malpeque Road). Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island
Charlottetown is the capital and largest city of the Canadian province of Prince Edward Island, and the county seat of Queens County. Named after Queen Charlotte, Charlottetown was an unincorporated town until it was incorporated as a city in 1855. It was the site of the famous Charlottetown Conference in 1864, the first gathering of Canadian and Maritime statesmen to discuss the proposed Maritime Union. Frederick Walter Hyndman
Frederick Walter Hyndman (February 13, 1904 – October 12, 1995) was an insurance company executive and political figure on Prince Edward Island. He served as the List of lieutenant governors of Prince Edward Island#Lieutenant Governors of Prince Edward Island, 1873-present, 18th Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island from March 1958 to August 1963. He was born in Charlottetown, the son of Walter Eardley Hyndman and Winnifred Sarah Cotton, and was educated at Prince of Wales College. In 1934, Hyndman married Norah Cecile Shannon. He served as a major during World War II. Hyndman ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the provincial assembly in the riding of 5th Queens in 1955.
