Williamsport Tomahawks
The Williamsport Tomahawks were the Class AA Eastern League affiliate of the Cleveland Indians in Williamsport, Pennsylvania during the 1976 season. The franchise moved to Williamsport from Thetford Mines, Quebec where they were known as the Thetford Mines Miners. The Tomahawks finished the season with a record of 48-91, worst in the league. Despite the lackluster record, the team had a total attendance of 53,757 at Bowman Field, which placed them 4th in an 8 team league. Before the next season, the Tomahawks moved to Jersey City, New Jersey as the Jersey City Indians, due to conflicts between ownership and the Williamsport municipal government over beer sales and field maintenance issues. Williamsport, Pennsylvania
Williamsport is a city in, and the county seat of, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, United States. It recorded a population of 27,754 at the 2020 Census. It is the principal city of the Williamsport Metropolitan Statistical Area, which has a population of about 114,000. Williamsport is the larger principal city of the Williamsport-Lock Haven, PA Combined Statistical Area, which includes Lycoming and Clinton Counties. John Humphrey "Red" Davis (July 15, 1915 – April 26, 2002) was an American third baseman in Major League Baseball and a longtime manager in the minor leagues. Born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, Davis threw and batted right-handed, stood 5'11" (180 cm) tall and weighed 172 pounds (78 kg). Davis' major league career consisted of 21 games and 70 at bats during September 1941 as a member of the New York Giants. He collected 15 hits, with three doubles and five runs batted in, for a batting average of .214. Davis made a more indelible imprint as a minor league skipper, logging 27 years (1949–72; 1974–76) in the farm systems of the Giants, Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Indians and Pittsburgh Pirates, and working at all levels of the minors. Larry Eugene Andersen (born May 6, 1953) is an American former relief pitcher in Major League Baseball and current radio color commentator for the Philadelphia Phillies. From through , Andersen played for the Cleveland Indians (1975, , ), Seattle Mariners (–), Philadelphia Phillies (–, –1994), Houston Astros (–), Boston Red Sox (1990), and San Diego Padres (–). Ronald William Hassey (born February 27, 1953) is an American former professional baseball player. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a catcher for the Cleveland Indians (1978–1984), Chicago Cubs (1984), New York Yankees (1985–1986), Chicago White Sox (1986–1987), Oakland Athletics (1988–1990), and Montreal Expos (1991). Hassey is notable for being the only catcher in MLB history to have caught more than one perfect game (the first with Len Barker in 1981 and his second with Dennis Martínez in 1991). Alfredo Claudino Baptist Read Griffin (born October 6, 1957) is a Dominican former professional baseball player. He played shortstop in Major League Baseball (MLB) for four teams from 1976 to 1993. Playing career Griffin began his career as a member of the Cleveland Indians, who signed him as an amateur free agent in 1973. On December 5, 1978, before having played a full season in the majors, he was traded, along with Phil Lansford (minors), to the Toronto Blue Jays for Víctor Cruz.
